Author has written 6 stories for NCIS, Criminal Minds, and Bones. Hi everyone. Thanks for reading this, if you are. I'm not overly good at talking about myself, but I will give it a go. I'm eighteen years old. I live in Australia, but I hope that maybe one day that might change. It isn't that I do not love the country- I do, but, regardless of how romanticised it may seem, I adore the idea of travelling, of learning and of living so far away that it no longer feels like reality. Of course, this may never happen, but I can dream. Languages are something I love. It seems odd to me, because I detest english literature, and reading beautiful books, plays and poetry only to discect them and remove any meaning that they held originally. I think this may be the reason that I will never grow to love books by Austen, or Shelley- when I first read them, I could appreciate the language and its skillful craftmanship, but now, having studied them, I only associate them with long nights filled with instant coffee! But, enough of my rant, my original point, (I think) was that being fluent in only two languages is no where near enough for me, especially considering the fact that although my french is as good as my english, French people can always tell that I am not a native speaker. Those who have ever tried to learn another language, particularly the romantic languages, will know that the english language leaves you with a 'twang' very difficult to disguise! I have been learning french for as long as I can remember, and while my fluencey is something I am proud of, unfortunatley my thoughts now come in a mixture of the two languages, which means my english can become very garbled. I am currently attempting to teach myself Russian, through books and online programs, but I am having little success. It seems that my quest to be multi-lingual will have to wait until I am no longer bound by having to constantly think about physics, chemistry and calculus! That said, I complain too much about my scientific and mathematical studies. While language, art and music are things I love and will always have an interest in, my true passions are science and logic. I know many people reading this will think that I am mad, but the satisfaction one can gain from studying subjects that extend infintley to the horizon, but still have a correct answer to each question, is difficult to explain in words. In case you can not tell, I am quite opposed to philosophy! I studied it for a year, in an attempt to bring some depth into an otherwise cold world of quantative studies, but let me tell you, I will never delve into that again! As far as my writing is concerned, please do not expect much! I do love to write, and the creative writing component of my literature course is by far my favourite, however that which I produce for FanFiction is not my best work. In addition to this, please excuse any awkward expression or grammar/ syntax errors. I blame the french! Over the years I have grown to use contractions and colloquialisms less and less, something which I blame on both my second language, where contractions are said but rarely written, and english literature, where informal language is a crime! I am a notoriously slow updater, which is why I rarely write long pieces. Another thing you should know about me, is that I am ever thirsty for knowledge. I sit on wikipedia for hours at a time, clicking 'random article', and learning about useless, yet facsinating things. As much as I deteste philosophy, Descartes "Cognito Ergo Sum" is one philosophical statement which I value. Je pense, donc, Je suis. I think, therefore I am. Happy FanFiction-ing! Xx |
