Hi, welcome to my profile. I'll tell you a bit about myself. I’ve been reading fanfictions for a few months now, and I decided it was time to join the fun of writing them. I'll tell you right off the bat that I believe in constructive criticism. If I read a story that… well… let’s just say could use improvement, I’ll tell you. But most of the time I usually have good things to say, because a lot of the authors are great ones. But authors deserve to hear constructive criticism, because it can help improve their writing. What I don’t believe in, however, is flames. They are completely inappropriate and unnecessary. There are more mature ways to show your opinion then insulting an author’s work and hurting their confidence. Pen Name: Going Green Age: 17 Gender: Female Anime I Like: Gundam Seed / Destiny Death Note Bleach InuYasha Eureka 7 Dragon Ball (all) Naruto / Naruto Shippuden Appleseed The Avatar Fanfiction Pet Peeves These are some of the things that drive me nuts when reading a fanfiction. (Note: please don’t take offense to this if you are one of the people who do these things. I’m not trying to insult you, but you should know the opinion of a reader.) In a summary; - “But what if…?” - “What happens when…?” - “I suck at summaries” “summary sucks but good story” If you write a summary without this in it, even if it does “suck” it won’t be nearly as bad as telling the reader that the summary sucks. - “no flames” It looks better in the authors note at the beginning of the story then in a summary. But no one likes flames so I understand why you put that there. Remember, the summary is what draws a reader to your story. Readers choose what story to read based on the summary. In a story; - Writing like a play. Eg. InuYasha: blah blah blah Kagome: blah blah blah Etc… - Writing it all in one big paragraph. Very painful to read, even if the story is good. It looks 100x better if you separate into paragraphs. - (This goes for summaries too) “riting lik dis cuz pple dn’t no how 2 use prper gramr” As soon as I see that shit, I stop then and there. End of story. This is the one thing I will not apologize if I insult someone, because honestly, that’s just sad and you shouldn’t write a story if you’re going to write it like that. Even if you have bad grammar, that’s life, but at least use proper words. - Having character and the author talk to each other in the author’s note. If you want the honest truth, that’s just retarded. Even though I have actually read some that are kind of funny, it bugs me because I have read some that are as long as the chapter if not longer! - I’ve never minded OOCs that much. A lot of people do, but the only time it kind of bugs me is if the person is writing a story where their personalities are supposed to be the same, or if its to the point that they may as well be an entirely different person. But if your story is where their personality is meant to be different, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. |
