The house changes, the people in it are changing too. After Matthew's death Carson and Hughes realize that they cannot go on like they used to forever. (Mainly Carson/Hughes but other characters appear as well)

After Matthew's death, Isobel must deal with something she would never have expected: the sudden departure of her only friend in Downton. Left alone to think about what happened, and what was lost, Isobel starts to realize that things are not as she had assumed the previous summer. And that she wants and needs her doctor back. - Rating may change in the following chapters.

Wedding Bells for Carson and Hughes

As music plays and wine flows at the post-Christmas dance for staff, Mr. Carson and Mrs. Hughes do something so unexpected it gets the whole house talking.

This was started within minutes of the Christmas episode finishing. All I planned to do was find a way to get from Isobel not wanting to risk everything for marriage to finding her way back to the man she is clearly fond of. The last few minutes put pay to that and this has become a more angsty, therapeutic story.

Reticence from both sides

A month or so following S3's CS - **spoilers** - When Isobel walks to the Abbey one day, she sees a figure dressed in black cradling a baby swathed in white, sitting on a bench. As they cherish the baby so dear to both of them, they come to understand just how much they share.
