When Ruby is injured as a child, Taiyang becomes incredibly overprotective. His attempts to shield her from the world drives Ruby to run away. Five years pass, and a highly trained and more seasoned Ruby joins Beacon. When a personal tragedy strikes Kali Belladonna, Yang tries to bond with her and finds the mother figure she's been lacking, but the longer she spends with Kali, the more complex her feelings become... because of how much Kali reminds Yang of another girl she used to love.

Jaune had no interest in Ozpin's latest training initiative, especially when it pit boys against girls across Beacon. Cowardice or not, he intended to hide and wait the whole thing out. Leading the male alliance wasn't part of the plan, nor was becoming mankind's final hope. He was a coward, an idiot and a weakling. It was just a shame no one would believe him when he said so!
