An alternate ending after Jailbreak. How far will Steven go to protect the ones he loves?

Takes place after the episode "Chille Tid". Steven has nightmares about Lapis, but they are soon replaced with horrible nightmares of himself. The Gems try to get Steven to talk about the weird dreams, but he refuses in doing so. But soon, Steven will be ultimately consumed in a darkness no one has ever seen before. Rated T for later chapters. AU.

A 16 year old girl dying of cancer is given a choice. A choice that will change the very course of her life and the lives of a certain beach town we all know and love.

Everyone made it home in one piece... on the outside. Pearl struggles to regain her sense of identity post-Tektite while the other Crystal Gems try to help her get back to normal. Steven glanced at the far wall, what was the cookie cat freezer doing there? And why did the Big Donut look like it had been months before...Wasn't he in that old spaceship catching Peridot with the others? After learning the truth about what she was meant to be, Amethyst feels betrayed by her teammates for keeping her in the dark. When she runs away, only to be captured by Homeworld scouts, she'll learn that being stronger may not always be better, especially when they choose to use her as a weapon against the Crystal Gems. A story about Pearl set between the episodes "The Return" and "Jailbreak", where she gets questioned about what happened to Rose Quartz, will Pearl be able to resist? This it's my first fanfiction and my first language isn't english, please let me know if you like the story and the grammar are correct, I will read any review with great interest.

Pearl touched her heart. This is beautiful. Who wrote this? The poem had no author, and Pearl didn't recognize the style. The book itself looked modern, and the language ruled out anything before the twentieth century. As Pearl scanned the text again she noticed something. All of the G's are backwards... She knew only one person who did that. "Amethyst wrote this?"

Long ago, Pearl sacrificed herself to save Rose from a monster. But when she retreated into her gem, she took a bit of the monster with her. When the monster threatens to bring havoc once more, Steven and the Gems find that their greatest threat is now one of their own. Will they save the world, or fall at the sword of their friend?

Amethyst grabbed Pearl's face, causing her to cease shaking the lavender gem. "Pearl, Steven's not hurt or anything. It's just that...I think you should talk to him." Just a little story I came up with after watching "Steven The Swordfighter." If you haven't seen it, then you better not read this, because of spoilers.
