Top 10 Ways To Double Your Leads, Clients And Income 2. We all want what we can't have. Scarcity is a time-tested and proven marketing principle that can't be ignored. What is in limited supply is one of the strongest motivators of human behavior. Consider each Christmas shopping season when some hot new toy is released and parents are literally fighting with each other to acquire one for their child. If you want to generate motion in your market then hit them right between the eyes with an offer for a product or service that is in limited supply. A limited-time offer also works in the same manner. 3. Don't delegate marketing decisions. We're talking about the communications that are going out to prospective new customers and your current customers. This is critical stuff and you need to have a deep, deep understanding of marketing to properly captain a company. A mistake many small businesses and new companies make is hiring an outside ad agency. These firms aren't concerned with what's most effective and most measurable. Many of them are trying to win the next advertising award. 4. Ethically and legally discriminate. You want to make your customers qualify to do business with you. Who is your ideal customer? If you don't have the answer to that question on the top of your head, then drop what you're doing right now and generate the answer because this is critical. You must know your customer better than they know themselves. It gives you a tremendous advantage over your competition if you know your customer better than they do and can construct better marketing based on that knowledge. 5. Test and track. Marketing is like science class. You do research, develop a hypothesis, and then run a test. Analyze the results, change your approach if necessary, and then run another test...and on, and on. My recommendation to you is to not engage in any advertising that cannot be directly measured in it's effectiveness to bring about a desired result. Bottom line...if you cannot easily calculate your Return on Investment (ROI) do not do it. Period. If you have a small company or a startup, you can't afford not to do marketing this way and don't let any ad rep tell you any different. They care about selling advertising, not making you money. 6. Use multiple media to reach your market. There are so many options...magazines, newspapers, websites, video, voice broadcast, billboards, text messages, etc. Find out which media are reaching your market and where they are. Then, use as many of these media as you can afford. We are bombarded with thousands of advertising messages each day and it is essential to use a multi-media approach to cut through the clutter and into the minds of your market. 7. Price is ten times more elastic than you think. Test your product and service at higher prices because you just might be surprised. Choose to abandon traditional thinking and rules about pricing formulas and industry “norms.” Consider how you might increase the perceived value of your product or service by adding an experiential component into the mix. Or, create a premium or deluxe version that sells at a higher price with more benefits. 8. Give your market plenty of reasons why they should buy. Reason why marketing is a well-documented and proven marketing tactic. When you give people reasons why you connect with and empathize with them. Are there enough compelling reasons why customers should buy your product or service? What makes your product or service so much different from the others in your category? You've got to be crystal clear on the answers to these questions before you can really experience a breakthrough in sales. 9. Inject your marketing with your own personality. Today, people don't want to do business with faceless corporations. They want to do business with people. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there and let you shine through your marketing. Of course, some people will like you and some people won't but that's the nature of the game. When your customers are tied to you personally they are much, much more loyal and much more willing to open their wallets. 10. Create your own category. If you can't be number one in your category then consider creating a new category.
