Vaginal yeast infections are not sexually transmitted. When you notice a foul-smelling or a fishy vaginal odor, that could be a sign of an overgrowth of one of our bacteria called Gardnerella. When your population of Gardnerella overpowers that of Lactobacilli, it disrupts the acid-base balance in the vagina and the pH becomes basic. yeast infection gone but still irritated of a healthy vagina is acidic. When the pH is basic, you start to see symptoms of bacterial vaginosis, including a fishy vaginal odor that women may notice more prominently during their period and after sexual intercourse when a man ejaculates inside of them. Many women notice having copious greyish discharge. They may have a little irritation. The signs and symptoms of a yeast infection are a lot like symptoms of other more serious infections, such as STIs and bacterial vaginosis (BV). If left untreated, STIs and BV raise your risk of getting other STIs, including HIV, and can lead to problems getting pregnant. BV can also lead to problems during pregnancy, such as premature delivery. Eat unsweetened yogurt with live bacterial culture (Lactobacillus acidophilus). Eating about a cup of plain yogurt that contains live” or active” cultures every day may help reduce the recurrence of yeast infections. The label of yogurt usually states whether the bacterial cultures are live or active. Supplements of Lactobacillus acidophilus, available at most health food stores, can also help maintain a healthy balance of bacteria in the body and reduce the risk of yeast infections. Within the body, it's almost as if yeast organisms can speak to one another and let the whole group know when a nutrition source is available, which makes the yeast gravitate toward that source so it can feed on it and multiply quickly. To keep on building and growing their colony, yeast and fungi secrete hydrolytic enzymes as a way of turning indigestible matter within the body into usable food (just like humans do, in a sense!). As more yeast build up in one area, a type of mold is formed that has the potential to cause yeast infections. People living with and without HIV can develop candidiasis, including women who develop vaginal yeast infections—a type of candidiasis. A person could also experience an overgrowth of fungus in their mouth or the back of their throat. Stress, poor diet, or not getting enough rest can contribute to these problems. |
