Hermione felt the pounding in her ears again. She would see him for the first time since the Great Hall, gaunt and stricken at the Slytherin table with his mother clutching his arm. She hadn't meant to look for him. Not in the corridors, not beneath the white sheets of the fallen, not on the way to the Chamber of Secrets with Ron, but she was a stupid girl.

Caroline gets home from a semester of college only to find that Klaus too has returned. She attempts resisting his advances, but when a threat looms in Mystic Falls she finds herself seeking him out. Her choice leads her down a murky path of blurred morals till she will stand equal with the object of her denied desire. [Smatterings of Kalijah and Mabekah; Rebekatoline]

Klaus and Caroline are both at the top of their game in their respective sports. When Caroline is sidelined by a career threatening injury, she flies to London to recuperate, and very quickly meets Klaus Mikaelson, captain and striker of a top football team.

Caroline is a psych student working as a sober companion in Chicago, hired by Elijah Mikaelson to assist his brother, Klaus, who is fresh out of rehab.
