I wrote this a few years ago and decided to post the first part. It's an alternate universe story that sees what would have happened if Logan Echolls was ostracized from the beginning, rather than Veronica Mars.

A long oneshot. Ron is haunted by his experiences of the DoM battle at the end of OOtP, and by old insecurities (set just before final chapter begins.) A conversation with Hermione may help. Also starring in cameo roles: Neville, Luna, Ginny, Madam Pomfrey, and Umbridge. Rated K plus for Ron's (very mild) language and lots of angst in 1st half. Could also be put under friendship.

Some things are just genetic.

The thing about the dead girl was, she wasn't just one colour, she was a rainbow all her own, bright and short lived, and after she was gone, well, it was sometimes hard to remember what the world used to look like. - preseries look at the lives of Duncan, Logan and Veronica before and after Lilly's death.

"I don't care about Veronica." In the heat of the moment, it almost feels true. Wallace nods. "I know you don't care about her now. But if you ever did - at all - then I'm asking you to come."
