I have been writing since I was in high school. I was writing fan fiction before I even knew it was called fan fiction. I believe my first story was a NKOTB FF...sad I know lol. I love to write and my current genres to write about now is The Vampire Diaries and The Originals from The CW Network. I love writing and reading OC's as long as they aren't Mary Sue's. Mary Sues are something I won't read. A story has to grab me within the first few paragraph for me to continue reading it this goes with any book I read as well. While most people pick a book based on the cover in a book store I read the first page or two if it grabs me within the first 3 paragraphs it's going home with me. Content, punctuation and grammar are key in writing. If you can't write using them or aren't proficient in those area's I suggest getting a Beta Reader. I'm not perfect and have a beta reader who I've been with for about 15 years. It has helped me and I've learned a lot from her and we often write together which is fun because we feed off of each other so well and can predict where the other one is going. I'm a stickler for research. I research research and research some more. If I love it, I'll find issues or it doesn't flow I'll tell you that in a a constructive nice way and I expect others to be the same with me. I don't believe in being mean about it. People often have a fear of rejection when it comes to writing. If we can't be constructive in critques or comments then we shouldn't say anything at all. |
