An official interview with Kishimoto

“A group of fans asked Kishimoto what he thought about the doujinshi and fanfics of this pairing. He simply responded that it was his favourite pairing and that he always collected stuff of it. In addition, he stated that he wanted to give the manga a Shounen-ai ending” (Confirming it twice)

After the Interview, Kishimoto revealed that Sasuke was based on his best friend from High School, whom he admired and loved very much, and that Naruto was a reflection of himself and the adventures he would have liked to experience when he was young. He also emphasized that in the series there is not a love triangle, but rather a circle, like a fish biting its own tail. Naruto likes Sakura, Sakura loves Sasuke and Sasuke has special feelings for Naruto.
However, he ended the note saying that Shippuden was going to be mainly about the fights and character development.

This manifest has been specially created for the fans and the not-fans of SasuNaru, though mostly for the fabs, Here you’ll be able to find theories, evidence and pretty much everything about this popular and famous pairing of the manga and anime “Naruto”.

Many people say that SasukeXNaruto is an impossible and undevelopable couple because they are both men. But just the fact that they are men doesn’t mean that the love between them is impossible, even more, it can be perfectly possible because all along the mange there were yaoi hints between Haku and Zabuza, Sasori and Deidara, Tobi and Deidara, Orochimaru and Kabuto and even Orochimaru and Sasuke.

OBJECTIVES OF THESE MANIFEST
1. Prove that Naruto and Sasuke’s relationship goes beyond friendship.
2. Prove why in the Shippuden saga Naruto is only concentrated in Sasuke.
3. Prove that Naruto doesn’t feel anything for Sakura or Hinata but admiration and friendship.

Let’s begin…

Part I of the manga: Rivalry and… a kiss?

When we meet Naruto, we see him completely in love with Sakura, so much that when he sees that she’s only interested in Sasuke, Naruto begins to “play with fire”, getting on Sasuke’s able and stares at him, but because of a wonderful fortune, a boy pushes Naruto, making Sasuke and Naruto kiss each other; and this causes that Sakura’s anger because she wasn’t the first one to kiss Sasuke, etc. What a beginning for them!

Understanding: What they both have in common.

To win Sakura’s heart or kiss, Naruto surprises Sasuke and ties him. Then he uses the Henge no jutsu, acquires Sasuke’s appearance and finds Sakura. They have the whole conversation about Sakura wanting to be accepted by Sasuke and then Naruto has to leave because of his stomach problems.
Then Sakura finds the true Sasuke and he asks her about the blond, Haruno takes it as a joke and starts talking badly about Naruto, saying that he has no parents and that’s why he behaves like that, and that doesn’t fit too well with Sasuke.
Sasuke shows us that he understands Naruto, for he knows what is like not to have parents, and even if they are rivals, they already have something in common, which is understanding.
Later on they find their sensei, Kakashi and they have to go through several tests, etc, etc. In the end, Naruto loses and Kakashi forbids Sasuke and Sakura to feed Naruto.
Sasuke offers his meals to Naruto and Sakura has an expression of “WTF?” upon seeing the action of the Uchiha. Even though, Naruto is surprised, but he blushes instead. He often blushes because of Sakura, but, isn’t it strange that he does the same with Sasuke?

Naruto, don’t die…
The battle against Haku, in the Wave Country, gets worse, but Naruto and Sasuke don’t give up. Haku directs his attack against Naruto, whom is defenseless, but unfortunately, it hits Sasuke that took the attack.
Naruto, deluded, thinks that Sasuke killed Haku, but it’s the other way around.
The scene is terrible for Naruto, because that person, his rival, had sacrificed his life for him. taking the attack of the Mist shinobi. Naruto asks what’s wrong and Sasuke doesn’t answer.

Naruto gets angry, according to him, he never asked for his help. Sasuke seems to be thinking, like searching for an answer, which is “My body moved on its own”-
Sometimes, when we have a beloved person, we do things we wouldn’t usually do, even to give up our life. After Sasuke’s answer, he falls in Naruto’s arms, but then Sasuke makes a confession,
“He’s still out there…My brother… I promised I myself I would stay alive until I killed him…Naruto… don’t die…”
After this, and leaving a deep impression on Naruto, Sasuke dies. A tear falls from the blond eyes, turning into rage and pain. Haku adds something to this,
“He died to protect you… to protect a beloved person, even when he knew it was a trap, he did it. He’s a respectful shinobi.”
Haku noticed the feelings of the Uchiha, which also awakened the Sharingan to save Naruto as Haku realizes a bit earlier in the fight. Naruto, after Haku’s emotional words, the blond makes him shut up, hiding his face full of pain. He says.
“I also hated you… I won’t forgive you!”
After wards, the Kyubi’s red chakra appears for the first time, surrounding them in a spiral and Naruto promises to kill Haku.

Where’s Naruto?

A familiar voice is heard, in the darkness of the boxes in the manga, and desperate cries as well. Could it be? Yes, Sasuke is alive and the first impression is Sakura crying over him. SasuSaku fans say that this a SasuSaku moment, since Sakura cries over Sasuke’s dead body and he tells her calmly that she is “heavy”. This definitely isn’t a SasuSaku moment, because Sasuke would have shown more worry for the pink-haired girl, but right after he wakes up, he only asks for one person, Naruto.

Naruto, Sasuke-kun is all-right!
The battle has ended; Haku and Zabuza are dead. Sakura, happily, screams to Naruto that Sasuke is alive, making Naruto cry from the joy and blushes slightly.

Strange behavior after the mission
After everything that has been told above happens, we go back to Konoha, and when Naruto appears, he greets Sakura as usual, but upon seeing Sasuke, they both stare at each other with annoyed looks, but blushing lightly at the same time and then they turn around. Sakura notices that this is the attitude they had been having ever since they came back from the Wave Country. The funny thing is that the reason for this behavior (the staring and blushing and not talking) was never discovered.

Chunnin exams. Death Forest: You are not Naruto.

The exams have begun, and this time, Mitarashi Anko sends the shinobis that approved the written exam to the Death Forest, where they’ll have to take care of their lives and take two scrolls to the tower in the middle of the forest.
After entering the forest, Naruto needs to pee, and thanks to a brutal punch from Sakura, he goes behind a tree. After returning, Naruto tells, “how well he feels” and Sakura punches him again. Sasuke looks at him and then punches him as well. Sakura is surprised and thinks that Sasuke punched him for what he was saying, but Sasuke comes out with a question:
Sakura, “Huh? Sasuke, you didn’t need to go so far!”
Naruto, “What the hell are you doing?”
Sasuke, “Where’s the real Naruto?”
Sakura, “Huh?”
Naruto, “What are you talking about?”
Sasuke, “Your shuriken bag is on the left side and he’s right-handed. And the principal difference is that you don’t have the scare that the examiner did on Naruto’s cheek. You’re a false loser even worse than Naruto in transforming.”
Here we realize that Sasuke can distinguish Naruto from a false one. He knows his appearance quite well and learnt to memorize even the last detail. Besides, he’s the only one capable of this, not even Sakura notices that there’s something different.

Your memory is my salvation

The true Naruto is being devoured by a snake, while Sakura and Sasuke are faced again Orochimaru. Naruto thinks he’s lost, until a memory comes to his mind: He and Sasuke competing to see who eats more. This memory gives him an idea and manages to escape the snake. In the anime, Naruto also thinks that he’s lost, but remembers his beloved people, the Hokage, Iruka, Sakura, until a stronger memory comes to his mind, Sasuke.
After thinking about him, he manages to go out.

You’re not the Sasuke I know! Run!

Sasuke decides to give up, since Orochimaru is beating them, even him. He decides to give the scroll to Orochimaru, Naruto screams at him to don’t do it, but Sasuke insults him and goes with his plan. Naruto jumps and takes the scroll from him. Sasuke insults him again, but Naruto punches him, sending him to a near tree. Sasuke asks what’s wrong with him:
Sasuke, “What’s wrong with you?”
Sakura, “Naruto, what-?”
Naruto, “I forgot the password. That’s why I can’t prove it, but… you’re not Sasuke, are you?”
Sakura, “What?”
Sasuke, “Idiot! I’m the true Sasuke!”
Naruto, “Liar… There’s no way that a coward like you is the Sasuke I know.”
Sasuke is surprised by Naruto’s words, Orochimaru laughs and Sakura is surprised as well. Orochimaru threatens to kill Naruto and escape with the scroll, which makes Naruto angry and runs to hit him, but Sasuke shouts,
“No! Escape, Naruto!”
And Naruto answers, “I lost my respect for you, Sasuke.”
This isn’t the last time that Sasuke tells Naruto to escape. He says it as well once or twice when Naruto came back after been eaten by the snake, so we have to reach the conclusion that Sasuke worries for Naruto. Maybe the anti- SasuNaru would say that this is obvious, since Naruto is his comrade, but Sakura is his comrade as well and he never tells her to run away to save her life.
Then, Naruto is attacked and hurt. Sakura and Sasuke shout at him, desperate as he falls towards the snake mouth and in two or three boxes of the manga, the worried expression of Sasuke is shown as he sees that Naruto is about to be devoured. Why would Masashi Kishimoto bother to put those expressions on Sasuke’s face and not Sakura’s? It seems that Sasuke is thinking, “I can’t let him die… I can’t see another important person die.”

Are you hurt, scaredy-cat?
In this scene, in the Death Forest, the rolls have reversed and now Sasuke is the one threatened by the snake, but Naruto saves him, all over again, breaking the silence with one phrase that Sasuke told him before.
These are some of the scenes in which we see how deep is Naruto and Sasuke’s relationship in the manga, mostly, though they appear the same way in the anime as well.

Proving that some of the anti-SasuNaru arguments are false
“They are both men.”
So what? Haku and Zabuza were men too, and probably loved each other; Haku was capable of giving his body and soul for Zabuza, while the older nin used him as he liked, Haku never left him, and in the end, Zabuza shows that his feelings for the boy run deeply into his heart.
It’s the same with Naruto and Sasuke, since Sasuke gave his life for Naruto, leaving his most important self-assigned mission aside, to kill his brother.
Besides, why would Kishimoto hint it so much? Why Sasuke and Naruto were the ones that grew closer in the first part? Why did Sasuke only have his attention on Naruto during the first encounter after two years? I leave it for you to answer.
“It’s a shonen, not a shonen-ai series.”
I know that, but it isn’t a shojo either to make Naruto stay with Sakura or Hinata and Sasuke with Sakura or Karin. As you say, it’s a shonen, so plenty of the pairings won’t come true. The manga has developed a lot, and the feelings of some characters for others have changed or remained.
Sakura now seems to like Naruto, but hides it by hitting him and threatening as usual. Naruto, jokes with her, but he hasn’t even shown to love her more than as a very important friend. Right now his first priority is to get Sasuke back, as he told Sai.
“Sasuke has tried to kill Naruto in several occasions.”
Yes, we know. But why did he forgive his life? According to Sasuke, it was merely on a whim, but when he was about to use his sword on Naruto, he was too slow and the way he was holding Naruto left a lot to think about.
“Naruto loves Sakura, it’s obvious on Shippuden.”
Naruto loved Sakura in the past, but now, his feelings are of friendship. He keeps asking her to go on dates and to be with her, but can Naruto really love someone that punches him so much, even if she says she cares about him? I know that Naruto is exasperating sometimes, but if Sakura loved him that much, she shouldn’t hit him like that. We know that Sakura cried and was desperate when Naruto was being possessed by the Kyubi, but did Naruto relaxed when Sakura tried to stop him? No, he simply hit her so hard that left her half-dead. This is not to defend the “supposed” SasuSaku, but to prove that NaruSaku is wrong.

MORE PROVES OF SASUNARU

ANIME

1. When they accidentally kiss each other, Naruto says something like “my tongue is going rot”, so that means the kiss was with tongue? I don’t see any other explanation, besides that that kiss lasted for quite a few seconds and before they start spitting, they look at each other for some seconds. Besides, when one accidentally falls into someone else, the normal thing would be to touch each other’s forehead or even the nose, but to kiss?
2. In the first opening when Sasuke goes near Naruto to help him get out of the river, the scene matches the lyrics of “…fighting and loving…”
3. Even though Sasuke has all the kunochi at his feet, he only cares about two things, either his revenge or Naruto.
4. Isn’t it strange that the only kiss has been between the two of them?
5. When Naruto fakes to be Sasuke, and the true Sasuke finds Sakura and she starts insulting the blond, Sasuke tells her that she’s annoying.
6. In the bell test of Kakashi, the first one to offer Naruto food isn’t Sakura, but Sasuke.
7. Practically every time that Naruto is in danger or is going to fall, Sasuke is the one that saves him.
8. When Naruto falls asleep training in the forest and Haku asks him why is he training, he answers that he wants to beat Sasuke and then Haku says that he’s training for a special person for him and Naruto seems to think about it.
9. In the fight against Haku, Sasuke protects Naruto saying that his body moved on it’s own. Yeah, right, it moved by itself….
10. All the scenes that Sasuke remembers before falling into Naruto’s arms are about Naruto and himself, and even the kiss is there.
11. When Sasuke is about to die and tells Naruto that he shouldn’t die, it’s very similar to a scene in Sailor Moon, when Serena defeats the Queen Vering, Serena holds Darien in her arms in the same way Naruto is holding Sasuke.
12. With the relationship of Zabuza and Haku we have to notices that Masashi Kishimoto seems to like yaoi.
13. When Sasuke “dies” in the bridge, Haku says that he dies protecting a very special person for him and that he’s an honorable ninja.
14. In this mission, Sasuke awakens the Sharingan for the first time to save Naruto and Naruto lets the Kyubi take over him for the first time as well.
15. When Sasuke wakes ups, he asks for Naruto first.
16. Naruto shows to be extremely relieved when he learns that Sasuke is alive.
17. After the mission, for some reason they won’t even look at each other and the reason for this behavior is never revealed.
18. Sasuke tells Sakura that she’s inferior to Naruto because she’s useless in missions.
19. When the snake eats Naruto, he thinks about everyone, but specially Sasuke.
20. When a false Naruto appears, the only one that realizes this is Sasuke.
21. Sasuke fights against Orochimaru in the forest of death because Naruto gives him courage and Orochimaru is scared of the influence Naruto has over Sasuke.
22. In the Chunnin exam, when Naruto makes the Naruto Rendan for the first time, Kakashi says that he got it because he observes Sasuke a lot.
23. Both Orochimaru and Kabuto realize the huge influence Naruto has over Sasuke and that worries Orochimaru.
24. In the fight against Gaara, though Sasuke is injured, he saves Naruto from hitting a tree and takes the impact himself.
25. When Sasuke tells Naruto to rescue Sakura and then run because he’s going to distract Gaara for a while, Naruto asks him why and he says that he won’t let another one of precious people die, and this gives Naruto courage to fight.
26. When Sasuke learns that Itachi is looking for Naruto, he runs to another town and searches for the blond like a madman, thinking, “If Itachi finds Naruto, he’ll kill him, I won’t allow it.”
27. When Itachi hits Sasuke and uses his Sharingan on him, Naruto gets angry and tries to help him, but they stop him.
28. When Naruto and his team go to rescue Sasuke, Sakura tells him that that he’s the only one that can bring him back.
29. Neji tells Naruto that he’s the only one that can show Sasuke the light again.
30. In the battle of the Valley of the End, Naruto remembers he always wanted to get close to Sasuke, but ended up being rivals and Sasuke was always his “idol” of sorts.
31. Naruto tells Sasuke that he won’t allow him to break their bond because Sasuke was one of his first bonds.
32. In one of the memories that appear, Naruto sees Sasuke sitting on a bridge in the lake and they glance at each other with annoyed expressions, but when they turn around, they both smile.
33. When the Rasengan hits the Chidori, they both look at each other sadly, like if neither of them wanted this, and there’s a scene of the two of them as little boys and they hold their fingers and smile.
34. Sasuke moves his Chidori so he doesn’t kill Naruto.
35. After all this, when they are both in the ground, Naruto is unconscious and Sasuke on his feet, it starts raining and Sasuke starts “Naruto, I…” and a pain shoots through him and falls, his face very near Naruto’s own, and then they focus the sky, leaving it open to plenty of rumors.
Some say that there’s a lost scene, in which some say that Sasuke cries, others that kisses Naruto, other’s that he whispers something to Naruto, but none of this has been confirmed.
Going with the rumors, they say that Kishimoto said that love in Team 7 is like a fish biting it’s tail, Naruto likes Sakura, Sakura likes Sasuke and Sasuke likes Naruto.
And another rumor says that in an interview, the author said that his favorite pairing was SasuNaru.
36. Anyway, following with real proves: when Sasuke leaves, he says that he’s going to find a way to get his own power, and not to listen to Itachi, so that means that he doesn’t want to kill Naruto.
37. Naruto doesn’t care about what Jiraiya tells him to stop looking for Sasuke; the blond stills wants to bring him back.
38. After Sasuke leaves, there isn’t one episode in which Naruto doesn’t mention or thinks about Sasuke.
39. After Sasuke leaves, Naruto is eating ramen but not as usual and he remembers Sasuke and says, “Today ramen doesn’t tastes the same.”
40. All the times that Naruto tries to search for Sasuke in the fillers.
41. And finally, we start with the Shippuden episodes. Naruto spent two and a half years training to bring Sasuke back; it is obvious that the bond they share is waaaaay too deep for just friendship.
42. In the first episode, when they find Sasuke, he tells Naruto that when two ninjas really know each other, they can read each other’s mind, so Sasuke really knows Naruto.
43. When Sasuke sees Sai, he says, “So that’s my replacement?” One would say that he was jealous.
44. When Sasuke jumps and half hugs Naruto, he whispers “why are you still after me if you want to be Hokage?” If he didn’t really care, he wouldn’t ask this, and was the whispering necessary?
45. Sasuke tells Naruto that he let him live on a whim, but who believes that after the fight they had?
46. Sasuke focuses only on Naruto, he doesn’t really pay any attention to Sakura.
47. Sasuke is the only one that has seen the Kyubi, besides Naruto.
48. Now we are going to the Shippuden manga. When Sasuke and Suigetsu go to find Zabuza’s sword, Sasuke looks at Naruto’s bridge intently, obviously remembering a certain person.
49. The kind of chakra the two of them have. Naruto is wind and Sasuke fire. In words of the very Naruto, only the wind can kindle the fire, so Naruto is saying that he’s the only one that keeps Sasuke alive.

Now we start with the openings and endings, and this part made it Higary of SasuNaru world:
50. Opening 5, Seishun Kyousoukyou. All this video, along with the song, is a total SasuNaruSasu proof. The lyrics:
“I'm connecting the words that had gone stale; though we just want to convey our simple feelings; the somber wind that blew on that day; is abandoning the ruins of yesterday, so I can smile and live with you; but then, doesn't that incident torment you? That's why this is goodbye.
As it is I'll only share things with you; and before long we'll realize that that's everything; my sadness flows down my cheeks and becomes just a river of tears; these trembling feelings strongly swirl and melt together! It’s obvious that Sasuke is singing this song to Naruto. And then, in the end of the video, they are the two of them and some of their memories, and the kiss also appears. Coincidence? I think not.
51. Opening 7. The lyrics of this one say a lot of things, but now from Naruto to Sasuke:
“I want to know why this clouds…shed tears. Use this sea of sadness and fly far away. I’m scared of the hard things. Even if the way is very long, it goes to a painted future. The time hurries us; your actions were rushed. Even if we wake up in our dreams, we are looking for the same light. Under this wonderful star night, the countless constellations and shadows. What are you thinking to do now? What are you looking at fixedly?...”
When it says that they “are looking for the same light”, it could mean that both of them want to get out of their loneliness. When it asks “what are you looking at?”, Naruto wants to know what his friend is doing and how he’s doing. This is the translation of the fansub in which I saw the anime, but I tried to translate it from English and this are the important phrases:
“The next time I see you, I’ll untangle the thread. I’ll talk to you until we’re both bored and I’ll continue smiling.” The thread thing refers to the bond that unites them and he’ll untangle it to make it longer.
“The wind connects us both. I’m not alone, I’m still here. Wherever the wind may be.” Remember the wind element thing a few lines above?
Now, about the video, it shows us very important memories for Naruto and plenty of them are with Sasuke, then in the scene where all the shinobi are looking at the stars, Naruto looks at a shooting star and closes his eyes while gripping Sasuke’s forehead protector, his wish sure was “I want to get Sasuke back.”
52. Opening 8. “I know we will meet again in the darkness, inside, in the deepness of our pain.” This speaks for itself.
53. The two endings of Shippuden.
Shooting star, is completely SasuNaruSasu, almost all the video centers on them and their relationship since kids, and shows that the only one that actually cared about Naruto was Sasuke, and you can’t deny he looks extremely cute when he gives Naruto the towel.
“Just like then, I’m on my way to my dreams, but unable to fulfill them (this refers that he hasn’t been able to bring Sasuke back). Maybe this is the last of the line; there are days when I say week things like that. But every time I remember that starry sky where I looked for a shooting star. The wish I made when I was little hasn’t changed even now. (This wish maybe refers to the one made in the opening 7, so it has to do with Sasuke.)”
The second ending, true, the images don’t have anything to do with the anime, since it’s a special chapter, but then, a scene repeats itself from the first ending of Naruto, Sasuke gives his hand to Naruto to help him stand up.
And the translation of the lyrics
“Just usual, when I turn around that corner I merge into the sea of people and melt away into nothing. I lose myself completely and I can’t find word to say.
Yet, one thing, your voice still remains, still remains. Everything about you, your smile, your anger, keeps me walking forward. (It obviously means that Naruto remembers his friend very well, and he keeps going because of him, and he remembers his smile, which is strange by itself, because Sasuke isn’t known for smiling. )
If I just look up where the clouds start to break. I think you know what I mean, I think you know what I mean.”

55. In the fifth Shippuden opening, it’s a song about them all over again.
56. A very important reason, they look freaking good together.
57. In an interview to Kishimoto, they asked him to act as the characters since they wanted to “interview” them:
When he had to act like Sasuke, there was special question, “What did the kiss you had with Naruto tasted like?” And ‘Sasuke’ answered “Like miso, I guess…” but then cursed himself for the answer. There, Kishimoto is our side.
58. This isn’t a proof, but usually people in the anime that fight a lot, like each other. And this is NOT a NaruSaku proof, for Naruto doesn’t fight back with Sakura.
59. In the movie of “The Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow”, when Naruto goes after the Princess, Sasuke falls over some ice and then asks Sakura where’s Naruto, without caring about the safety of health of the pink-haired girl.
60. In the second movie, “Legend of the Stone of Gelel”, Naruto remembers Sasuke again, and gathers enough courage to save Temujin.
These are plenty of reasons of why the SasuNaruSasu is a cannon pairing.
