Things I promise not do as a fanfic author.(Here's hoping.)

#1. Bait and switch. (You know this one. You read a fic and after a few chapters the author suddenly changes who the couples are.)

#2. Terminal WIP. (If I don't update in anything in a year. Assume I'm dead or worse, without Internet. Either way drink something over 90 proof in remembrance.)

#3. Write a fic where the love interest is between people old enough to be parent and child. (Dongalor's rule applies. The Older ones age divided by two, plus 7. Good rule of thumb.)

#4. Harem fic. (The story usually degrades into pointless smut. Hey don't get me wrong, I'm all for pointless smut, but I want the story to at least advance. And that's pretty hard when the main character has umpteen girls to satisfy.)

#5. Commit plagiary to a fellow fanfic author. (Not cool.)

#6. Self insert into the main characters inner circle. (No one cares about a perfect character. )

#7. Write a 1st person. (Nothing against them. It just takes a phenomenal author to draw you into a first person without seeming pretentious or silly. Sadly eighty percent of us aren't.)

#8. 7/06/09 - Hold a chapter hostage for reviews. (Reviews motivate authors to keep writing. And authors love reviews. But an author shouldn't demand reviews or readers won't get the next chapters.)
