![]() Author has written 1 story for Lord of the Rings. Hey there, call me Ellie! Desoite this being a new account, I am certainly not new to ffnet, nor writing for that matter. I am, however, new to the LOTR/Hobbit/Silmarillion/etc categories on here. The fandom I used to write for was a small one, but unfortunately, I lost interest in writing in it. Middle Earth, on the other hand, has been something I'm passionate about since I was young. So, after a good 14 years, I can safely say that Middle Earth and Tolkien's creations are things that I'll always be passionate about. Although, hopefully one day, I'll have my created my own fictional world to be passionate about! I'm actually pursuing a Maths degree, not an English one and because of that, there's going to be a lot I don't know. Most of my knowledge of writing is from High School and the more advanced stuff, from googling fabulous articles! If you think I'm doing something wrong or have a tip to make my writing even better, please share it with! My Work I aspire to one day be an author - as do many fanfic writers. I set out to write original fiction a few months back, but realised there was a lot I still didn't know about writing and felt like I wanted more practice before embarking on that journey. One day I will, but today is not quite that day. :) Because of this, I try my best to view my work objectively. I welcome even harsh critique, because the only way I will learn is through being told I'm wrong. However, if you tell me I'm wrong, then the first thing I will ask is "Why?". I am not trying to challenge your opinion, instead I'm trying to understand why I was wrong so that I don't continue to make that mistake. If you're reading my work and find something like "she out a deep breath" and there was obviously a missing word, please say. Or any typo/mistake for that manner. I try my best to be thorough, but it still happens. I will be writing with original protagonists. The main reason is that I feel that I feel I need to practice creating my own, believable, interesting protagonists and not solely relying on Tolkien's. I will, however, do my best to follow cannon. When 'adding' to cannon (I will never intentionally break it), I like to justify with some form of evidence why that character would do that. If you feel I'm breaking cannon, speak up. If I have thought it through, I will explain my reasoning. If you still disagree, I promise I will try to see your side of the argument. I will try to respect the movie "cannon" where possible, since it's well known. Or well, appreciate PJ's additions. If the movie and book contradict each other, I will always choose Tolkien's own words above all else. |
