Things I hate (rated teen): 1. People who don't spell check their stories. How hard is it to click a button, people? Seriously, I've been reading fanfic a LONG time and there's NO WAY your story is so damn good it must be posted so fast you can't spell check it. Asshats. 2. Mary. Freakin'. Sues. Make it STOP! They should require a warning along for those stories just like they require one for smut-- 'cause I really don't want to read about you as the Doctor's new companion or you as the new CSI or you as the new Fraggle or Smurf or JLA member or whatever. (And don't think people don't know that's supposed to be you. Half the time you use your own bloody name.) I am absolutely positive that you would, in fact, NOT be the most beautiful, smartest, most bestest fill in the blank ever that is the center of the freaking universe and everyone would be in love with you. If you really think you may have accidentally made a May Sue and really want to know 'cause you really didn't mean to and you don't want to make people cry, try running your character through a test like this one: . It should be required. To quote the great Syera, "Self starring fiction is like bubblegum. Don't share it after you're done with it." 3. People who don't use punctuation. Seriously? You're so good you don't need punctuation? Ever notice how you don't have a lot of reviews, and those that you do have say things like "use punctuation"? That's because people don't know what you're saying without it. And you look like a moron. The rules of English apply to EVERYONE. 4. People who ignore constructive criticism even when it is presented in the nicest way. I've read the reviews: "Get a beta, I think they can help." "I liked the idea of your story, but perhaps you should use punctuation so it will be easier to read." And yet, you ignore it because you're so pompous you think your story can't possibly be improved. Those people were NICE to you. They WANT to like you and your horrible story. They want to HELP you, you idiot. I can't even understand how they can be so nice to you, but they are. And you act like you're too good for them and their advice. I weep. |
