Identity

I sincerely doubt many will take interest in this kind of information, but well, it seems more polite not to let my profile page completely blank. So, some basic facts about myself :

● I'm a girl (who would have guessed ? Given the proportion of slash, there must be at least 90 of female on FFnet)
● I'm French (please be kind enough to forgive me for my awkward use of the english language)
● I'm in my twenties (but I'm not necesserily mature enough to pull it off)
● I've been reading fanfiction since a couple of years (long enough to develop some aversions)

Main fandom

I mainly look into the Harry Potter fandom. Which is quite paradoxal, because I don't like the books all that much. But well, I find it easier to find good fics in a large fandom, and the Harry Potter fandom is by far the largest amongst those I know. And even though I don't enjoy the story written by JKR, I think the universe she created has a lot of potential, and luckily many talented fanfiction writers exploit it.

I sometimes look into my favorite manga fandoms : Chrno Crusade, Claymore, Death Note, Fullmetal Alchemist, Gundam Seed, Hikaru no go, Hunter x Hunter, Monster, Nana, Tokyo Babylon Tsubasa Chronicle... but there are too many of them and I lack time to check regularly.

Favorite type of story

I only read long multi-chaptered Harry-centric stories. The problem is that I strongly dislike canon!Harry : I find him annoying, he has a great potential but he never makes the effort needed to meet this potential, and is ultimately quite useless. He only manages to get the upper hand because he is incredibly lucky. I don't find this satisfying at all. As a consequence, I enjoy fanfictions where Harry grows a backbone and doesn't always relie on others to solve his problems. Luckily, many writers seem to prefer independant!Harry, so there are many types of stories meeting this condition. I especially like :

● smart!Harry (because Hermione can't be the only one able to think)
● political!Harry (so much potential for politics in this universe, but seldom used)
● powerful!Harry (but not superpowerful, if he can do everything, it's not very exciting)
● dark!Harry (Slytherin or not, siding with Voldemort or not, many possibilities here)

As long as this first condition is met, I can read almost any type of story, but there are some clichés I generally enjoy :

● Harry accepts to be sorted in Slytherin.
● Harry is adopted by Severus.
● Harry is chosen as a heir by Voldemort.
● Harry has a problem in his Animagus form and someone he knows unknowingly takes care of him.
● Harry has a twin and nobody believes he is the real Boy-Who-Lived.
● Harry becomes Voldemort's ally.
● Harry creates a third party somewhere between Voldemort and Dumbledore.
● Harry is sent to Azkaban, escapes and seeks revenge.
● Harry is a Necromancer.
● Harry is an Unspeakable.
● Harry uses one or several false identities to escape his reputation.
● Harry meets his parents in an alternate dimension.
● Harry has had enough and has chosen to quit the wizarding world, but circumstances call him back.

There are a few clichés I dislike on principle :

● Harry is the heir of Gryffindor (or of the four Founders, or of Merlin, or whatever... who cares ? honestly, they lived so long ago that every british wizard must have some of their blood.)
● Harry is a slave (and of curse, he has to be used for sexual purposes.)
● Harry is amnesic (but only until he falls in love with a former enemy, then he gets better, a real miracle.)
● Harry is a girl (... just no.)
● Harry finds his soul mate and their bonded power defeats Voldemort (by the power of Love, disappear, you big meanie !)
● Harry is raped (because then he can angst and fall in love with the former enemy kind enough to help him and have wild sex with said enemy less than a fortnight after being raped.)

About pairings

While I have nothing against romance, a story where nothing happens beyond the progression of a relationship holds little interest for me. A well-plotted story without romance is perfectly fine. But, well, it's quite rare, I wouldn't have much to read if I refused to look at the stories where romance is a main focus. So I've tried, and my preferences are now quite defined.

Pairings I generally like :

● Harry/Snape
● Harry/Voldemort or Harry/Tom
● Severus/Regulus
● Severus/Lily
● Grindelwald/Dumbledore

Pairings I sometimes like :

● Harry/Tonks
● Harry/Luna
● Harry/Fenrir
● Harry/Neville
● Harry/Hermione
● Voldemort/Regulus
● Remus/Sirius
● Remus/Tonks
● Remus/Fenrir
● Lucius/Narcissa

Pairings I dislike nearly no matter what :

● Harry/Draco
● Harry/Ginny
● Harry/Ron
● Ron/Hermione
● Ron/Draco
● Draco/Hermione
● Draco/Ginny
● Voldemort/Bellatrix
● Voldemort/Ginny
● Voldemort/Hermione
● Snape/Draco
● Snape/Hermione
● James/Lily

It goes without saying that Mary-Sues and Gary-Stu are a big no-no. The same goes for incest, twincest included.

In any case, the concept of soul mates annoys me, and I tend to avoid it when I can, even if there are some interesting creature!fics. But anyway, I often avoid creature!fics because I believe in equality between lovers, so the whole thing with a submissive mate and a dominant creature (or sometimes the reverse) just doesn't do it for me.

And while I like slash, the idea of a male pregnancy makes me quite sick. So I never read a story where there is one, unless I feel it would be a real loss to miss reading it.

So, now... if you took the time to read my inane babbling, and if per chance you know some fics I would probably enjoy, don't hesitate to recommend it, please !
