Rani and the Incomplete Fairy

Part 1

It was just before dawn and the morning mist still hugged the ground. Most of the fairies were fast asleep for the sun had not yet risen. Suddenly a hush and a sudden gust of wind blew across all the seasons of Pixie Hollow. The wind awoke many of the fairies and shook the tiny homes they lived in. As many stumbled out of bed and outside to see what was going on, the top of the sun rose from the ocean sending light through the leaves of the trees and lifting the fog. The fairies shielded their eyes from the intense morning light. A little late, as usual, Rani stumbled out of her floating home on Havendish Stream. Mid yawn she turned to her friend and fellow Water talent fairy Humidia, “What was that?” Humidia who appeared to still be half asleep replied, “I don’t know but whatever it was it knocked me out of bed!” she continued to ramble about the shells on her desk that had fallen and chipped, however Rani paid no attention. As she looked into the light of the rising sun she noticed a small dark figure floating in the breeze and coming straight for Pixie Hollow. Without another word Rani whistled for brother dove and took off into the sky.

Rani felt the cool morning air upon her face as brother dove soared over Summer Glades, past the beach, and to the sea. As she grew closer, the figure became more than a dot on the horizon. Rani had hopes for what she would find but didn’t want to get her expectations up before she was sure. Growing closer she noticed a stem then a puff of dandelion on the end. A new arrival! Before Rani could experience her excitement a swift wisp of air sped in front of her. Brother dove stopped with a hault and Rani was almost sent plummeting towards the sea, unable to save herself without wings. Steadying her self, Rani realized the sudden stop was caused by Vidia, a fast flying talent who had planted herself in front of brother dove. “What are you doing?!” Rani exclaimed flustered, “There is a new arrival floating this way! We need to get them to the Pixie Dust Tree!” Vidia smiled crookedly and chuckled, “honey I am WELL aware and that’s why I came out here to do MY job and make sure this special little fairy gets there. No offense darling, I mean, I KNOW this bird is a great help to you and all. But I’m afraid those violent flapping wings might just ruin the chances of this little one ever making it. Vidia made a exaggerated sad face as she swirled the dandelion in circles around Rani and Brother Dove. Rani felt her shoulders dip and was reminded again of how different she was from the other fairies. Vidia, seeing that her words had made there desired effect, came close to Rani and put her hand over the place where her wings once were. “Why don’t you run along, I’ve got this one covered.” Without another word Vidia sped off toward Pixie Hollow, carrying the dandelion in her cross winds.
