I only have this account so that I can keep track of authors and stories and suchlike and so that I can leave signed reviews - I don't dare write any fic because it'd be plotless, perfectly implausible, and totally pointless, to boot. I do pride myself on having a firmer grasp on grammar/spelling and some of the aspects of good writing than many of the denizens of this fine forum do, so if I leave a scathing, caustic and/or sarcastic review on one of your stories, I'm only trying to help! Really! I just have trouble with that thing called "tact" when I'm feeling indignant.
More on me? Um, I'm sixteen (going on seventeen!), a girl. Wholly American, but an Anglophile. Rather fond of slash, but only when it's decently plausible. I like the subtle varieties best. Yes.
Things I like:
•Lord of the Rings.
•The Silmarillion.
•Lord Elrond Peredhil.
•The Harry Potter books, but I'm not so fond of the little blighter himself.
•Remus J. Lupin. The "J" is very important.
•Anime, though I've gotten much pickier over the years. Rurouni Kenshin and anything Miyazaki are my favourites, though I'm rather attatched to Gundam W, Magic Knight Rayearth, and Shoujo Kakumei Utena too.
•The Horatio Hornblower books and miniseries, as well as darling Hornblower.
•HMS Volans. (Hornblower/Bush is canon, damnit!)
•Commodore James Norrington.
•HMS Next Tuesday (Norrington/Gillette)
•The Chronicles of Narnia, particularly Edmund and Caspian. Meepwibble.
•Grand British Fantasy Books In General. I'm sure you know what I mean.
•The West Wing
•Silly quotes. See the sidebar on my livejournal for examples.
•PONIES. Actually, horses (especially big teddy bear warmbloods!), but it's all the same.
•My Oxford English Dictionary.
•Jeopardy!
•Sarcasm.
•Politics, but not sausages.
Things I don't like:
•Yu-Gi-Oh.
•Real Person Fic. It squicks me, for some reason.
•Songfics.
•When authors use the wrong homonym. Arr.
•Overuse of ellipses and other obviously bad punctuation.
•Historically/culturally inaccurate fanfic. I swear, if I see another Pirates of the Caribbean story in which a ship has a hallway with marble flooring and private bathrooms in each cabin, I'll lose it and start smiting things with my (nonexistant) saber. DO YOUR RESEARCH AND DO IT WELL.
•When authors use the wrong fifty-cent word. Honestly, if you're going to try and sound smart, don't be half-assed about it. Also, thesauri are your friends.
•Mary Sues.
•OOC-ness. There's your interpretation of the character, and then there's writing a whole new character who just happens to have the same name that the original did.
Um, that's probably more than anyone wanted to know about someone who doesn't even have any fics up.
