Daryl Dixon found Montana by chance. He ran from home because he couldn't live there any longer. Not with his ol' man, and not with his brother. He was just looking for a fresh start in a place called nowhere, where nobody knew him. He didn't expect to find much. Just a quiet life, a job, and maybe some peace - for once. What he never expected was to find her. AU, no walkers.

What if there was a way to prevent the events that brought the group to the prison? What if there was a way to save every single person they have lost along the way? What if second chances at the end of the world actually existed? Will they be strong enough to save the others? This story has given me many sleepless nights but I think it has been worth it.

Daryl finds himself becoming increasingly concerned for Carol's well being after an incident in the prison yard changes their relationship forever.

The world is over. His brother is gone. His options are slim. And then out of the fog appears something he doesn't even recognize. He doesn't see it at first for what it really is. Hope.

Daryl is more aware of his choices regarding Carol than anyone knows, each choice changing their relationship bit by bit, but he doesn't know where the trail of choices will lead them, he can only follow. Set right after the Season 3 finale.

When all of Rick's plans fail and the prison is lost, the group is separated. Before they can reconnect at their new camp, Daryl decides it's time for Plan "D". But can Carol handle it and is Daryl up to the task of charming this damaged woman in a broken world? Rated T for some Dixon language, but rating may change to M in later chapters.

Carol held his warm hand awkwardly as they walked, her fingers shaking against his sweaty palm. They fled with who remained of their family and there at the end of the procession, they traveled hand in hand.
