I have always believed that heritage and genetics of Aang's mother was the reason for his strong feeling for family in a society that valued more casual interpersonal relationships and raising children in a communal setting. I think she had strong feelings for him, and that Gyatso was more than just a mentor. This story explores those ideas. ATLA characters property of Nickelodeon.
