![]() Hello. I like writing about fantasy and crime, but my favorite genre to read about from other fanfic authors is sci-fi. To me, fanfictions are pretty interesting mediums to dive in because not only do they serve as another layer of the fanbases for various games and shows, but they can also switch perspectives from the canon plots and serve as fun wish fulfillment. I am an amateur writer with almost no experience under my belt, and english is only my second language. Because of this, I tend to research A LOT about english terms and world-building lore of what I write fanfiction about, which is why slugs are faster than any amount of progress I make on most of my planned stories. Regardless, I hope that you might find some enjoyment in any story I attempt to write and any Favourite story I added to my list that might serve as a gateway to yours. GAMES: I have played and replayed Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones more times than I can possibly remember. It's the single most nostalgic game for me, and Ross is the best axe-wielder in the franchise barring Hector, fight me. Before I played it, though, I played Final Fantasy Tactics Advance as a little boy. The inventory system confused me so much, but it also left me very curious and intrigued. It's probably one of the biggest reasons why I like fantasy medieval settings so much to this day despite the oversaturation of the market. I tried playing the original Final Fantasy Tactics for the PS1 later. The graphics and music were wonderful and I was glad that you didn't need to gather equipment in order to learn the flashiest attacks. The gameplay was still incredibly unbalanced and unfun, though, with certain classes that were clearly better and superior in every aspect that matters, which made raising a balanced team of various talents far less effective than, say, just training every unit as either Knights with Chemist skills or Wizards with Summoner spells. It's always sad to see a RPG go out of its way to give you a nice number of classes, but then turning out that you're only going to use two or three of those classes if you want to make any progress at all. It's also the game that made me realize how much I love blondes, though, so I can look past it. The Megaman Zero series has probably the best mix of gameplay and story I've ever played. Sure, they're not my absolute favorite games ever, but a healthy mix of platforming action, solid story pacing and characterization, genuinely surprising plot twists, excellent soundtrack as it is custom with the Megaman franchise, and a heavy sense of nostalgia from my childhood has kept it from ever being forgotten by me despite the years that passed by. Nier is alright, both the original and Automata. While I do like the themes in the story, the gameplay is pretty average, especially when you compare it to Platinum's other works, like Bayonetta and especially Revengeance (which also happens to be my favorite slash'em up). And the characters themselves, while likeable, aren't really that great compared to other games. Again, I really do like the stories and themes, but I really think Yoko Taro would be better off working on turn-based roleplaying games than in action games and platformers. He even tends to introduce multiple characters to follow the protagonists and form parties during most of his games, so it's not like the set-up would be too hard. Doom is a great classic, and the 2016 remake managed to blow it out of the water. The Brutal Doom mod is in an uncomfortable position where depending on which camp you decide to ask about, it either gets more shit than it deserves, or more love than it is worth, with little middle ground. It's a solid mod and a fun time, but try not to believe the hype that either side try to create. ANIME/MANGA: Holyland is the most underrated manga of all time, and all those who read it are my blood brothers for life. It awakened pure martial arts love in me, and made me consider real combat to be way more interesting than most unrealistic fighting styles. Berserk is still my favorite manga, though. Hey, Holyland is awesome, but you can't beat the classics. I still have some fond memories of Naturo, especially Shippuden. Despite its flaws, it's melancholic to see that powerhouse of a series slow down to a halt. We all gotta grow up some day though, and while I'm not sad to see it gone, I'm still filled with nostalgia whenever I see it. IN GENERAL: As you can probably tell already by my Favourite list of stories, I like to think of myself as a decently diverse guy. I've started seeing stories way back when I was just playing the Gameboy Advance, looking for Megaman and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance fics. When I grew slightly older I started looking for fics of classical horror RPGMaker games as I watched them through Youtubers like Markiplier and Cryaotic. By now, I also take a look at the most popular franchises such as Naruto, Death Note and Dragon Ball simply because, with so many fans writing stories about them, some of those stories are bound to hit the mark. As of a few years late I also decided to indulge in "flavour of the month" kind of fandoms as they were released and became popular, such as Undertale, Doki Doki Literature Club, and Goblin Slayer. |
