A young girl is resurrected as a Guardian and begins looking for the father she barely remembers. But her father is a Guardian now, exiled for joining in Lysander's rebellion in the Last City. Together, they nervously watch as the scheming Lysander negotiates with the Kell of the House of Kings to attack the Last City in what will be known as the Battle of Twilight Gap.
