Mary Sues are one of the pet peeves of many readers of fiction both fan and original and their presence in the world of literature is rarely a good thing.

We at Mary Sue Police are dedicated to raising the standard of fanfiction and in particular, fanfiction that features OCs as the main characters. OCs are fun to write but must also be fun to read. However characterization is crucial in order for any story to be good.

This is how we work:

We review OC fanfiction, basically. We will review fanfiction that contains Mary Sues (or Gary Stus) and we will explain who the Sues are and why, containing evidence from the text that we feel highlights the issue. We do not flame. However, we firmly believe that honesty is the best policy. If the Protagonist Sue is spiteful, we will say so. If the Protagonist Sue is a hypocrite, we will say so. If the Protagonist Sue is unlikeable, we will say so and we will do our best to say why.

It isn't all doom and gloom, though. If the OC is good-and by good we mean fleshed out, balanced, relatable and likeable, we will also review. Our praise is not easily won, so if we do give your OC a good review, give yourself a pat on the back. We favourite good OC fanfiction from across the fandom world so if you are looking for some examples of good OCs and good OC stories, we recommend all of the ones on our favourites list.

As for us, we take on Canon Sues in our stories and give them what we perceive to be comeuppance for Suishness. Keep in mind that we will not be targeting fanfiction OCs, only ones that exist in published works.
