I figure if I have time to write fanfiction, I'd go build my own setting, plot, and characters in full.

True originality is nonexistent. Good creativity is rare. Good execution is enjoyable. Every field can be inserted and summed up by fiction: psychology, history, political leanings, life approach, even one's would-be leadership style. Few things can reflect upon one's intellect and breath of knowledge more than fiction writing...
