Although Fitz and Simmons are still shaken by their trips to the alien planet, they are at last enjoying the beginning of their new relationship together. Unfortunately, SHIELD agents don't get very long vacations and a recently transformed inhuman has begun using his gruesome powers to kill. Along with their team they race to stop him

Jemma Simmons was a genius who had to give up everything when her parents died in order to take care of her adopted siblings, Skye and Michael. The three siblings, though all adults, still live together and work themselves like crazy in order to earn enough to make the rent and put food on the table. Times are hard with Christmas coming up when Jemma and Skye are unexpectedly fired

At the base, shortly before Christmas, Fitzsimmons decorate for the holidays and Jemma channels her inner Christmas elf to put to together a special surprise.

She hated him. Nothing more, nothing less. It was by pure chance they even started talking, and then even working on the boy's drone. But that snowy Christmas night changed everything. Finally, Jemma Simmons saw Leo Fitz for who he really was. And maybe he felt the same way

They say there are two things you should never let go of: hope and true love. But as insanity settled deep and heavy in her chest, Jemma could feel both slipping away through her fingers. The white stick read plus, and the video tape showed the father of her child being pulled away by a certain monolith. Life was trying to pull sanity away from her. But she promised to never let go

Fitz held Jemma closer, knowing that they were both changed; different from what they were yet again but they were still here after all. Together. Spoilers from episode 3x10.

"You can't blame yourself for everything." After a moment, something different came over Jemma's face. Moving closer, Fitz wrapped his arms around her shaking shoulders. He held her tightly as she cried. There was little more he could do. He knew full well how it felt to lose the person you love. After all, he'd lost her multiple times. As the team goes after May and Hunter, Fitz and Jemma stay behind at The Playground with Jemma still not up to being back in the field and still unable to cope with distractions. When The Playground is attacked, however, Fitz and Simmons must escape from the hold of an old enemy. Takes place after 3x03.

Jemma and Fitz's new romantic relationship is tested when they manage to return Will back to Earth.

The evening after the events of 3x08, Jemma finds Fitz in his room.

The words came on their own, like a second nature, and he sang to Jemma through the night, the same tune over and over again. He sang the words as a prayer, like a plea to whatever powers above - whether they be God or karma or the First Law of Thermodynamics - were listening. Please don't take my sunshine away.

Jemma Simmons is not here. Not anymore, at least. She is a wisp, a dream, nothing more than a fragment conjured from Fitz's vivid imagination and sharp memory. And yet she is still very much here, capable of her own thoughts and actions and emotions.

He joined this team for Jemma, and joining it is what made him lose her in the end.

'Her relationship with her best friend is strained, the awkward moments between them never ceasing, and despite how her heart breaks whenever she catches a glimpse of the brokenness in his eyes, she can't bring herself to be truly immersed in his presence.
