![]() Author has written 4 stories for Pokémon, and Fairy Tail. Hello, the name is Solvableenigma, well not really, obviously, but this joke is so damn overused that I should probably just stop and move on. Anyway, if you want to get to know me, here's some easy things. Name: See above Okay, so I wouldn't be much of an enigma if I gave you the answers to me, now would I? I happen to be a Solvable enigma, so if you really have a desire to get to know me or my writing, send me a PM or leave a review on one of my works. I know many subjects, but don't feel proficient enough to write about most of them. However, if I get an idea, I'll write it and if I think it's good enough, then I'll post it; if I don't, I won't, simple as that! Decoding the Words of an Enigma CONCEPTUAL: These are currently ideas that I am bouncing around in my head. These won't come out for a while. DEVELOPMENT: These are fics that are in the final stages before being officially written. A lot of work and planning has already gone into them and now final cuts are being made and any last changes are being made. DONE: These are fics that are completed. That doesn't mean I'm done with them, as I may choose to edit/re-write them for a higher quality. EDITING: These fics were completed, but I decided that they could be better, so I am changing them a bit. HIATUS: These are fics where I have found myself lost as to where they should go in terms of story so I am taking a break from them to focus on other projects. IN-PROGRESS: These fics are purely long-stories. They are not done, the story is still going on and being actively written. SCRAPPED: These were story ideas that went nowhere or ultimately were not the quality that I would like. This tag will not last long before the story is taken off of the list. TIME-SENSITIVE: These fics are ones that while I have an idea of what I want to do, there is a major change in the fandom approaching and I want to wait for that change to occur before I write anything during this transition. List of Current Fics and Status To Judge the World- A man's home is burned and he is left with nothing, but chance encounters lead him to discover a world, and plan, that will change his paradigm forever. IN PROGRESS Deux-Trois-Deux- There is always rain on a certain day in Fiore. The terrible anniversary. Death, the always victor, the always eternal, the unbeatable, has a cruel sense of humor. DONE A Man's Final Wish- In this tale, Cynthia heads to a part of Lumiose City that is not known for its glamor, all to satisfy an old man's final wish. Sound dirty? It's not. DONE Jazz on the Beach- Perhaps more of a personally appealing piece, the title pretty much sums up what the story is about. Pokémon universe. SCRAPPED Unnamed- A plague has stricken the Pokémon world. However, this plague has only three symptoms. One awards obedience; one punishes rebellion; one has turned the entire world on its end. Of course, it is up to those who are immune to get to the bottom of this. PLANNING The 8 Great Magics- There is a way to defeat every opponent, or so it's been told. However, what if there were types of magic so powerful that it was rumored that they couldn't be beaten? And what if a magic council demanded that all of the guilds band together in order to eliminate the holders of these magics? IN PROGRESS Unnamed- To be the strongest, that's what the competition is about. But what does it mean to be strong or weak? SSB Universe. TIME SENSITIVE/PLANNING Things I See that Make me Cringe Inexcusable Spelling/Grammar: Let's be honest, we all make simple mistakes. We are so enamored with our stories and our works that we forget check and make sure everything is spelled correctly or that we have followed the (ever-increasing) grammar rules. It happens. However, this is not an excuse if an entire story is written and there is little to no effort put in to making sure the story is actually readable by an educated audience. There are betas, there are online spellcheckers (FF itself has a really good one!), and there's basic knowledge, so there is no reason for some of the stories here to be as incoherent and childlike as they are. Keep in mind, this rage is only contained to when people break obvious grammar rules, as some are rather difficult to spot. (Pronoun-antecedent agreement is a good example of an obscure rule that is often overlooked/forgotten.) Rule Breaking: Why do people need to break the rules all of the time? Seriously, why? What is so appealing about breaking rules? It's one thing if you don't understand the rules, but it's another thing if you actively break the rules. It's aggravating. You can tell great stories without MA content, it's not infringing upon your rights as an "artist" if you can't write in chat/script format, you can handle actually typing out the full words and not use chat-speak, and there are multiple functions that allow for interaction with your fans that are infinitely easier than posting them as fics. Also, if you ever try to justify plagiarizing another's work, whether it be on this site, another site, or especially a recognized work, then I will personally advertise for your banning. Create your own stuff. Don't steal. It's that simple. Erroneous Commas: Probably more a personal thing, but you don't need to add a comma after practically everything. Too often do I see works that feel it necessary, to add commas at, random intervals. I honestly, don't understand what, you're trying to accomplish. While commas can, be rather confusing, to use properly, putting them in random places, is not the solution to the problem. If you have questions, contact, a beta, or a person well versed in grammar, or even just use Google! In case, you didn't notice, I have been putting commas, in random places. I'll stop now, but it becomes difficult to read when you do that and the reader ends up pausing every two seconds because it takes a moment to process that comma. This leads me to my next point about comma usage. Stop using commas to indicate pauses while a character is speaking. All it does is clutter the sentence and make it difficult to tell if the character is actually speaking. If you want to indicate pauses, use an ellipsis (...) or a dash (-) as these are much more definitive and lead to far less confusion. Excessive Randomness: A little bit of randomness if fun and can add charm to a plot, especially one based on a funny source material. However, if every five seconds something bizarre and crazy happens in an otherwise serious fic, I am going to close out your story and stop reading. Note: If your story is supposed to be based on random craziness, then that's fine, it's the point of the fic, but if all of a sudden the plot is thrown out the window in exchange for weird stuff happening, then cry to yourself in a corner that you have lost another reader. Also, if a character is noted by randomness, there had better be a good reason as to why they are the way they are. Incorrect Use of Reviews: What purpose does the review system serve? If you answered A, B, or C, then you are WRONG. The review system is a helpful tool that can seriously aid aspiring writers in improving their craft. However, if all anyone uses it to do is to dish out praise or to flame them, then no one is becoming better and it's just a waste of time. While not every review has to be an in-depth analysis on the author's writing, putting in a suggestion or correction every now and again is the least any reviewer could do to help out a fellow. Unnecessary Hate: This angers me when I see it on Fanfiction; this angers me when I see it on Fictionpress; this angers me when I see it anywhere, in real-life or otherwise. Seriously, no one needs or wants hatred, and if you think that you are funny because of it, then you are just wasting your time writing out the hate. |
