On My Username:

I changed my pen name a little while back. Once upon a time, back in my grade school years, I picked the pen name QueenThayet, after one of my favorite characters in one of my favorite author's books. I grew up, but the pen name didn't, so I just picked a new one - The Disappeared. I wish I could say that there was a deep reason for that choice, but in reality there really wasn't. And then most recently I changed it to The Disappearing Me.

About Me:

Just a few facts about me, since that's presumably the reason behind your visit. I love reading and obviously writing, but reading always comes first. I also love critiquing stories, so when I review (if I have the energy/time, which has been happening less and less as of late) I have a tendency to add some constructive criticism, too. If you don't like it, PM me (nicely, please!) and I'll stop.

My favorite fiction authors (outside of Fanfiction) are Anne McCaffrey, obviously JK Rowling, Patrick Rothfuss, Jim Butcher, Isabel Allende, Alexandre Dumas, and a bunch more that I can't think of at the moment. I've also been getting a bit more into non-fiction lately, but I don't really have any favorite authors/books in that realm. My favorite TV shows abound, but I really like Modern Family, all the Stargates, The Big Bang Theory, Firefly, Spy, Community and more. They tend to fluctuate with my mood though - lately I've been rather stressed, so I've been leaning more towards the lighthearted comedy side of the spectrum. I never actually watched Naruto on my own, but my sister did and I kind of absorbed it by proximity, enough to enjoy the many Naruto fanfictions...those of quality, at least.

The wonderful side effect of taking language classes is that I can convince myself I'm studying while watching TV so long as it's in a language I'm learning (update: or at least I used to be able to, until I learned the true definition of what it means to be busy). As a result, I enjoy several foreign TV shows, which are prone to change but currently include La Teacher de Inglés and 美人心计 (Schemes of a Beauty). As you can probably tell, I'm learning Spanish and Chinese, which leads to some very strange trilingual dreams, generally where I'm trying to speak Spanish in an English context, but fail so much that I end up speaking Chinese instead. That, unfortunately, says a lot about my life.

Wow...it's amazing how short this profile got once I removed everything that didn't apply to my life post-2008 (which is apparently when this was last updated, but to be honest, most of the content that was up here was actually written in 2003...). I've been on this site for a while, and I was a preteen back when I started writing here. I'm not too terribly proud of what my younger self wrote, but I'm proud of her for completing the undertaking (the first time around). I read fanfiction for fun. I don't write it often. Normally I can't keep hold of an idea long enough to do so. But I'm writing a new fic for Firefly right now called Some People Make the Future (henceforth to be known as SPMTF) and I have THE WHOLE STORY MAPPED OUT. Not perfectly, of course, but I have the entire overarching plot. And that is so exciting!

Life has a way of happening to me, and considering I write fanfiction for fun and have no plans (which in my case would be delusions) to become an author, I can't really justify writing fanfiction when I should be doing other things. This means that my fics take a backseat to my life and if something happens in my life that I need to be prioritizing, I am more than willing to abandon the fic. My apologies for any of you who are impacted by this - you have been warned!On that happy note, glad you stopped by my profile! If you are an aspiring author (which, given that you're on Fanfiction, you likely are) I highly recommend checking out Jim Butcher's Live Journal. It's full of great advice by a published (and pretty awesome) author on how to write a great story. If you're ever taken a creative writing class, you probably already know its contents, but if you're like me with no training, it's an amazing resource which I highly recommend.
