When Max and Chloe discover Rachel Amber's body, Max decides to take a chance and photo hop to a point before Rachel went missing with the intention to save Rachel's life. When Max returns, she finds out that things didn't turn out quite as planned.

It's been two weeks since Max made the choice to sacrifice Chloe. It was the right choice, rationally. It was the choice Chloe would have choose. It's just not the choice Max can live with.

Max did the "right thing" and accepted Chloe's fate, saving Arcadia Bay from the tornado. After Chloe's funeral she went home to Seattle to deal with her devastating depression, wondering why she still has her time powers. There, she discovers where she went wrong, her true purpose, and goes back seven months to send her younger self on a journey to save both Chloe and Rachel.
