Author has written 2 stories for Stargate: SG-1, and Lord of the Rings. Hi! Welcome to my admittedly short collection of mixed fandom stories. I originally started off over ten years ago writing Stargate SG-1 stories with moderate success, I wasn't brilliant but who is at 13? I was in high school and had loads of time to mess around on the web. I discovered fanfic and probably spent a whole year just reading through the Heliopolis SG-1 archive (those bleak days before livejournal) before attempting something myself. I only posted one of my stories here, but there are a good few SG-1 fics on my website if you wish to read them. Then I started my geography degree at university and all spare time flew out the window, apart from doing the usual academic work, essays and exams, I also spent a large amount of time getting rather drunk, deafening myself in clubs with stupidly loud music, having to work part time so I could afford to survive off something other than savoury rice and almost giving myself caffeine-poisoning while staying awake for four days in a row to finish my admittedly awful environmental dissertation about Lord of the Rings (don't ask, it was the worst piece of total cack, fiction or non-fiction, I've ever written). Somehow I got enough marks to pass for a decent-ish degree and graduated in 2005. In those three years I only managed to finish one fic, a Lord of the Rings hobbit story. Which is archived here also. Skip to present day and I am now an GIS Systems Admin Officer for an IT company delivering services to local councils. I'm the administrator for the digital mapping systems and all the Ordnance Survey maps. I know it sounds dull and it probably is but to a geography graduate it's cool. So after a prolonged break (I think it's been five years since I actually finished a fic) I've decided to tentatively ease myself back into fandom. In those five years I have continued to read fic daily and I have created the occasional music videos (again see my website). I get a bit over-awed at times at some of the great writers and their imaginations and panic when I realise I don't think I'll ever be that good but I've tried not to let that stop me from my own writing. I did however take a creative writing course for one year while at uni and I learnt a lot about writing styles, some does and don'ts. I think my writing has matured from when I first started, I'm a lot more descriptive, I think hard and long about plot and where I want the story to go. I watch my tenses, spelling, grammar and sentence structures with a lot more care. My fandom for the last five years has been Stargate Atlantis, with my fav character being the amazing Rodney McKay. My favourite fic to read is gen team action, h/c and slash h/c, angst, romance. I have also developed a great taste for AU's. Atlantis seems to lend itself to AU more than any other I have read before and I find McShep AU's great fun. I have almost completed my first full-length SGA fic. I also had a landmark moment while on holiday as my best friend encouraged me to beat the fic dry spell by doing a couple of drabbles, which ended up being a great exercise in writing for me. I trend towards writing novel-length fics and sometimes find myself burnt out in the middle and with little enthusiasm for finishing. I found this drabble method really helped as I was able to redirect my fandom mind towards something else for a short amount of time and could come back to my fic with fresh ideas. Anyway, on with the fic. I have in the way of SGA a fun, humour fic about puddlejumpers and of course my drabbles to date. I expect to finish my first longer fic any day now so please keep visiting! Thanks for reading! |
