This is my own story and a first attempt at writing. I have tried to introduce new characters who are backwoods and uneducated. I have tried to use a vernacular to show so you may think I have misspelled words but have not.

There are only so many things a man can stand - and sometimes comfort is not one of them. A simple item of news shatters the world of the relay station with terrible consequences, driving Jess into unknown territory as he is compelled to complete a harrowing, secret task. (Long 4-part story. Updated Mar 8 in light of reviews and feedback; new incidents, mainly in Ch 16-18).

"Meltdown", published on this site in October 2015, told the story of what might have happened after the gunfight in "The Replacement" episode (season three). "Meltdown Part Two" is the story of what happened after the close of "Meltdown". Both stories assume a familiarity with the LARAMIE television series. Gotta love these guys!

With Slim in Denver on stage-line business, Jess is forced into a gunfight in the Sherman Ranch yard. Now he's certain that, to protect his newfound family from possible harm, he must give them up. I've added nine numbered chapter heads for those who find one big chunk of fic difficult to read.
