According to my mom, I taught myself to read when I was 2.5 years old. I've been a bookworm my whole life. People in books are usually much more interesting than real life. I have the opportunity to get in their heads, which rarely happens in RL. ;) I lean toward fantasy... supernatural, mythological, magical (not so much with the technological). Good vs. Evil. Ordinary people discovering that they're extraordinary. I'm also fascinated with how people interact. I read a lot. I read fast. I've been accused of inhaling books. It's not unheard of for me to stay up until daylight, trying to finish reading a story. Actually, it's fairly typical. My introduction to fanfic was when Buffy the Vampire Slayer was in its first run. The author I most remember was ~mere~. At the time, lots of authors emailed their stories to lists of readers. Then I was taken by other distractions. And then I got a live-in boyfriend... and a kid. And the bf was busy texting and chatting and generally monopolizing the computer, and ignoring me and the kid. And then he finally moved out, and I was a single mom, and - at the end of the day - it was finally MY turn on the computer. So I watched the first 4 seasons of "new" Doctor Who, and then moved on to reading DW fanfic, here and on Teaspoon. Then, through author blogs and favorites lists, I discovered SVM fanfic and then Twilight fanfic. Which is kinda... funny. Because I've never read any of the Sookie Stackhouse books (although did see a few episodes of True Blood). And I read a couple of the Twlight books, and watched the first movie... but really wasn't too taken by them (for so many reasons, most of which I find impossible to verbalize). But I REALLY like the Twilight all-human stories. There are some really great writers, and fantastic stories in this fandom. And I've certainly developed a taste for the 'M' or NC-17 rated stories. (What can I say? Very. Single. Mom.) I've noticed I have an aversion to fics based on unplanned pregnancies... especially if it's due to a one-night stand or first-time sex. I also have an aversion to fics whose storylines involve date-rape drugs. Can't explain it. Just a hard-limit for me. Once I reach that point of the story, I usually ditch. I'll apologize here... I am a certified lurker. I have been, since I first started using the internet. Heck, I'm that way in "real life", as well. So... if I don't review, don't take it personally. If I like your story, I put it on alert. If I REALLY like your story, it's marked as a favorite. And if you've written multiple stories I like, I've marked you as a favorite author. That's my feedback, and I'm sorry if it doesn't seem like enough. And, although I've been reading stories on here for close to 2 years, I only recently got an account. So I'm playing catch-up (a bit) on marking favorites. Mostly on DW stories. More about me? I'm a 41 year old Aries. My son is a 5 year old Aries. I like to bake... bread, cookies, cakes. And my cat likes to sit backwards on my computer monitor while I'm reading... so I'm constantly peeking around her tail, or trying to move it out of my way, while I read. Thx, |
