OUR HOMEPAGE: hpfanficfanpoll . livejournal . com The HP Fanfic Fan Poll Awards began at San Diego Comic-Con in 2010 as a panel discussing “Harry Potter” fanfiction, and its impact on the fandom and the franchise. Attendees signed-up if they showed interest in rating the best that this series has to offer after the con had ended, and from that grew the idea of creating a small Yahoo Group for the task. We had 56 voting participants for our first “vote” held in January, 2011 for fics written for the Winter, 2010. Since then, we’ve held four “Rounds” amongst ourselves, with the number of voting participants growing and shrinking as time progressed. During the last “Round” held (Fall, 2011), it was decided we should open the idea up to the HP community at large, rather than keep it confined to the select few who attended the “HP” and fanfic panels at conventions. After much debate, we’ve only just come up with an idea that can be both fair, as well as limit the amount of work that voters and staff have to do. We want to use these fan awards to reward those of you who have toiled hard to create a masterpiece, so we hope you’ll consider participating. Let’s keep “Harry Potter” fanfiction rolling for many more years to come! SPRING 2012 ROUND Nominations begin accepted until January 22, 2012 at midnight PST (we've extended the date out by one day because of the SOPA blackout protests on the internet on January 18). .x. Fanfics that qualify for the Spring Round’s Nomination period are only those written between January 22, 2011 to January 21, 2012. .x. THE ONLY THEMES CONSIDERED FOR THIS ROUND: · THEME - FAMILY & LOVE (themes: Marriage, Marriage Law, Children/Pregnancy, Dating/Engagement, Divorce/Marital Problems, Unrequited Love, Breakup, Siblings [includes Half-Siblings, Step-Siblings, Sibling Rivalry, Parent-Child Issues [not child abuse]) · THEME - SMUT (themes: Slave/Master [Consensual, Alternative Lifestyle-Sex/Nude, Threesome/Moresome, Rent-Boy/Prostitute, Loss of Virginity, BDSM/Kink, Incest, Stag/Hen party) · THEME - STATE OF LIVING (themes: Roommates/Housemates, Squib Life, Muggle Life, Mistaken Blood Lineage, Royal or Noble Titles, Reincarnation/Past Life, Shopping/Fashion, Alternative Lifestyle-Other) · THEME – SPECIAL (themes: Special Celebrations [Anniversaries, Special Holidays [Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day]) Like other award ceremonies of similar type, fans of "Harry Potter" fanfiction will nominate stories that meet the theme criteria under a selection of Categories. Those Categories are: BEST DRAMA-ANGST STORY NOMINATION RULES: 1. Nominating will be open at Midnight, Pacific Standard (San Francisco) Time on the 1st of January. 2. Nominating will close on Midnight, Pacific Standard (San Francisco) Time on the 22nd of January. 3. You may nominate only ONE fanfic per Category. 4. You may not nominate your own stories. 5. An author can have multiple Category nominations for the same fanfic (for example: if the fanfic is both romantic and smutty, nominate it for both categories; or if a fanfic has both an equal share of comedy and drama and mystery, nominate it for all three categories). Please make sure that the story fits each Category you’re nominating it for, however (use common sense here). 6. Only a completed nomination form (see below for the template) will be considered.Do not leave any information blank on your nomination form, or your nomination will be rejected. 7. No anonymous nominations can be taken. 8. No Work-In-Progress (WIP) stories can be nominated for any Round. Stories must be completed to qualify for nomination. 9. No stories featuring original characters as the top two main characters of the story can be nominated for any Round. The top two characters of a story must always be "Harry Potter" canon-based characters from the novels, movies, video games, J.K. Rowling's website, Pottermore, or The World of Harry Potter amusement park experience (basically, anywhere that the copyright has been officially recognized by J.K. Rowling/Warner Brothers). 10. Crossover stories can be accepted for nomination so long as the "Harry Potter" universe is where the main action takes place, and "Harry Potter" characters are the top two main characters in the story, and the characters nominated for any individual recognition ("Best Hero," "Best Villain," "Best Supporting Character," etc.) are "Harry Potter" characters. 11. In order to further qualify for a nomination, the story’s completion date must fall within the 12-month timeline allotted for a particular Category (as detailed above). When a story began (when it was originally posted to the public) is irrelevant - it's when it's marked as completed that counts for the sake of nominations. The completion date must further be THE ORIGINALCOMPLETION DATE, and not the date the author posted the first somewhere else for the first time. 12. If there is a problem with a Nomination, and the Nominator does not return our contact emails before a particular Nomination period closes, the Mods will make any changes necessary to the Nomination to assure it is properly classified (by category or length) or discard it, depending on what the actual issue for its hold-up is. 13. Once the Nomination period is closed, no more nominations will be accepted for that Round. No exceptions. 14. Nominators caught cheating (plagiarising, submitting multiple nominations per category under different email addresses, or submitting their own fanfics under false identities/email addresses) will have their nominations nullified from that Round and, and they will be banned from participating in the event again - THAT INCLUDES ACCEPTING THEIR FANFIC FOR NOMINATIONS BY OTHERS IN THE FUTURE. We frown upon liars and cheats, and don’t want them to be a part of our community. .x.
