Been writing for years, but all business or customer service. Voracious reader though... finally began wondering if I could write.

Saw mention of this site on social media about BatB and I was curious, so I came to visit and read. Found lots of great writing, and was inspired to try myself. Figured there's two parts to writing on your own: the mechanics and the story/universe. I'm mostly playing with mechanics here, and a little with the story... oh who am I kidding, I'm winging it for now, but playing with mechanics, then story, then world building is the very loose plan at the moment. Guess I should see how I feel when I'm done with the first one though.

Happy Star Wars Day! Just a bit of a nerd, so had to add that. Still busy at work, though I'm down to 6 day work weeks, and checking email on the 7th day, and 50 hours per week or so... Still dealing with fallout from system updates in February, and new stuff coming down the pike. Hopefully the new stuff will go well enough that I can get my half minion (20 hours per week) full time (40 hours per week).

Still writing bits and pieces as I can, but have limited energy or mental capacity left for editing most nights. Not even a first pass for basic story logic. I am still writing. I am going to finish it. The plan is somewhat fluid, but I know where I aim to end.

Thank you to everyone who has inquired about the updates or posted feedback. I'm so glad you are enjoying it. That remains a large part of why I'm still writing and posting.

I'm still trying to channel Dory (from Finding Nemo) and Pollyanna.

Not quite as busy as the above post, but still busy. Also hit a bit of a block with some of what needed to be written to move on in "What If". I think I'm past it now, and hope the rest will go more smoothly. Still writing, still planning on finishing at least my first, and am determined not to start any other projects until it's done.

BaTB Explanation & Apology

This show is what brought me to fanfic. I was obsessed with BaTB when it came out. I loved the characters and the premise. The feeling that Cat and Vincent were meant to be together (a la soul mates), their chemistry, the tease of when they might get together, the thrill of the potential discovery, it was all so romantic and enticing. The episodes weren't enough. I needed MOAR! Hence my foray into reading fanfic. Which led to me writing it, as I was bit by a plot bunny and didn't see anyone else writing my version of it. I was curious if anyone would read what I’d written and if it was worth continuing, so I posted it, even though it wasn't complete. (I will never do that again; I will only post completed fic. I feel much too guilty about not finishing when it is published, even now that I have an 8 month infant.)

But I ran into problems with my muse as the show continued. It was so very different than I expected. The end of season one felt rushed. The initial Muirfield plot felt like it was over too soon. Cat’s character felt a little spastic for a detective in a police department, and she keeps forgetting that Vincent is a beast – not in a “I’m not afraid of him” way, but in a way that inevitably causes them trouble. I could see once or twice, but she just keeps doing it. They threw man after man at Cat, and distracted Vincent with other women. And don't get me started on the JT and Tess romance bit. The plan to have the romance and Muirfield and the police procedural all in a single show was too much and I didn't think they were doing it all justice in most of the episodes (never mind all of them). It began to all feel rushed and crammed too full of ideas, especially too many tropes. Don't get me wrong, I like a good, well timed trope as well as the next reader, but too many is almost never a good idea – it feels like you are trying too hard (unless that was the point, and it clearly wasn't).

I get that the writers were probably trying to clear up storylines to give us closure in case they weren't renewed, but I feel like they could have written less fussy plot that still provided some closure. It just all felt so ridiculous, and stretched my willing suspension of disbelief a bit too far. I ended up picking apart episodes. I just wanted to enjoy my guilty pleasure, not be thinking my way through episodes, and it got to a point where I just couldn’t do that. So the muse took a break, and I stopped having an easy time writing.

I’m trying to write again, but it isn't the same for this story. I am getting caught up in stuff. I have some ideas about how to get through the scene I’m on now. I know where the plot is supposed to go. I may see if I can find the first episodes for free online somewhere to refresh my feelings for the show, from the episodes that started it all. We’ll see. I do want to finish the story, even if it’s just a chapter that is all third person explanations instead of the characters experiencing the storyline. However, I’m hoping to finally get the story written and posted as I had originally intended. I hadn't posted a chapter explaining things because I have personally been frustrated while following a story to find myself reading an “I can’t write” post instead of more story.

In the interim, I’m going to post something short in the Marvel universe that I posted on AO3.
