Hi! I humbly thank you for visiting this little corner of my mind. Here's where I'll put some info about myself, so one might get acquainted with myself... Name: Tom (yes I'm a boy!) Age:18 (June 1992) Ethnicity:华桥 (Chinese-American), proud first generation! Location: The West Coast of the USA Profession: High-schooler (going to Berserkley!) looking to pursue a career in the field of medicine (doctor/surgeon) Hobbies: drawing, reading, surfing the web, playing PC games Music: most genres of music out there, but specific bands/composers (in no specific order): Linkin Park, Green Day, Muse, Coldplay, Jay Chou or 周杰伦 (depending on area of the world), Marty O'Donnel and his team, John Williams, Frank Klepacki, JerryC, DragonForce, The Who, Richard Wagner. (funny series), Naruto (manga's turning in a weird direction), Bleach, One Piece, Project Arms (look it up), Elfen Lied (nice, dark little piece about the darker side of our species), Gundam 00 (awesome mecha), Samurai 7, GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka) Books: anything that can kill time, including interesting text and reference books: examples include Harry Potter series, Inheritance cycle, Count of Monte Cristo, Rape of Nanking, Halo series novels, Zombie Survival Guide and its sequel, World War Z... I took the what mana color are you? Quiz on Magic: The Gathering site, and here is my result! White: You value law, order, community and light. You love to protect the social order and the rule of law. At your best, you are just and protective. At your worst, you are authoritarian and dogmatic. Your symbol is a sunburst. Your enemies are black and red. Quotes: "For the Greater Good!" Tau rallying cry "Blood for the Blood God!" followed by "Skulls for the Skull Throne!" Typical Khorne Beserker battlecry "Da Red ones go fasta!" Orky superstition "Nuclear Launch detected" Kudos for whoever has heard this one before! "There is no such thing as innocence, only degrees of guilt." Space Marine Librarian "When the pin is pulled, Mr. Grenade is not our friend." US Army training manual, as quoted by Activision's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare "He who controls the past, commands the future. He who commands the future conquers the past." Kane "Non sufficit Orbis" Bond family motto "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong, at the worst possible time, and in the worst possible way." -Murphy's Law "No plan survives contact with the enemy." Murphy's Laws of combat "One! Two! Five!" "Three, sir." "Three!" -Monty Python and the Holy Grail "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!" -more Monty Python goodness "...let us cast arms aside...And like discard our wrath. Thou, in faith, will keep us safe Whilst we find the path." Halo: Ghosts of Onyx "Nothing is true, everything is permitted" motto of the Hashashin from Assassin's Creed Personal Quotes: There is no such thing as normality, only a degree to which society will accept our behavior. Likewise, there is no such thing as sanity. Charlie Foxtrot! (NATO for cluster fu-) OK it's not mine, but I'm the only guy I know who says that on a regular basis. I HATE Murphy! (usually after something gets FUBAR in my life) "Looks like testicular cancer..." "Personally I perfer the Pisces model myself" A Friend of Mine "Wait, there's a mobile suit in the guy's scrotum?" A visual joke in AP Chem that turned into a Gundam Wing reference (I dunno how that happened either). I'll add more as I think of them... Introduction I know some Chinese (not a lot): I can't read it (sadly), and I'm taking Spanish (Yo solamente sé un poquito), aside from the lingua franca. As you can see, my hobbies are all over the place: I am a bookworm, a self-procalimed military nut, an avid gamer... Anyways, I signed up to be able to read the fine collection of stories on this site and maybe give people my two cents' worth every once in a while. I want to one day be able to write and post a piece of fanfiction that does not become an eyesore, and not get screwed over by schoolwork while I'm at it. I have an idea about a story of my own, but it would probably infringe upon the ideas of many sci-fi series already in place (Command&Conquer: Tiberian series for one), but I keep on putting it off for more pressing matters (school). I wish everyone here the best of luck in their endeavors, and last but not least, Ko'vash Tau'va! A Character I made up a while back, which will probably appear in my stories (AKA my OC) Name: has many aliases but prefers to go by Suzaku Age: really, REALLY old Appearance: Usually appears as a glasses-wearing male around 5'10", wearing an all-black outfit consisting of a 2-piece suit, and dress shoes Weapons: variable structure nanomachines, futuristic military weaponry (ranging from mothballed to frontline to experimental), A kinetic-to-potential energy conversion shield (absorbs enemy attacks and converts it to extra energy), and a dual AI core chip system to aid in combat functions. Powerplant: Tiberium (or some other unobtanuim)-based reactor, capable of overcharging his systems for up to 5 minutes at 300% power before core overload. Weaknesses: Power system highly unstable, reactor could go critical on a scale similar to an "ichor LQ detonation"; reactor's safety shuts the reactor (and consequently the entire body) down to prevent such a catastorphe, but full system reboot takes up to a month depending on the reason for such an overload in the first place. After shutdown, subject experiences total amnesia, as well as a lack of energy, a "massive migraine", disorientation, and occasionally a coma for a week. Rants #1: Grammar and word usage As a foreword: If you live in a country where English is your primary language, you shouldn't be making many grammar and spelling errors. Microsoft Word can only do so much, and it is your duty as an author to make sure that your writing is free from mistakes. One: For the love of all that's good in life (gaming, books, one's sanity...) STOP mixing homophones up! They sound the same, but don't have the same meaning! If the mistake are few and far between, then it's just human error. BUT, if those things are consistently appearing in every paragraph, then that's a place where you need to improve in! Two: Microsoft Word's spellcheck makes mistakes. Do NOT rely on it! DEFIANT DOES NOT mean DEFINITE. #2: Fanon vs. canon Guys, it's called FANfiction for a reason, as in it does not have to follow the events that the original author set into motion. These stories are speculations about what could have happened in the universe of the story, or just about the characters. If you want to follow the author's train of thought to an extent, be my guest! However, with that in mind, one CANNOT just pull a deus ex machina, and make something happen without a convincing explanation and a proper buildup (i.e. Chaos joins forces with the Necrons, the Elites betraying the Covenant [yes the events of Halo 3 disprove this, and ESPECIALLY devoted followers abandoning their idols). Nothing's worse than a random plot twist, unless your fic consists of nothing BUT random jumps in logic (i.e. it's a crackfic, and therefore should be labeled as one). #3: Homophobia Even though I'm straight, I think that there's nothing wrong with homosexuality. If you do NOT like such realities, then don't go reading such a story, and then flame it. That's called being an ass. These stories have descriptions of their pairings. Just look for a story with your desired pairings. #4: Illogical pairings In some stories, there are pairings that just don't make sense. If the personalities don't mesh, there's no way that a relationship will last. Likewise, two peopel who barely know one another getting together is ALSO a pretty illogical occurrence (see above rant on deus ex machina). Story ideas/Works in Progress: #1: Untitled for now Rated T/M (only for blood, violence, and language; What would happen if a few squads of Spartan IIIs were to land in the Naruto Universe due to a Slipspace-related mishap? Follow members of Gamma Company as they explore the Land of Fire and discover a world in which humanity is not threatened by a genocidal extraterrestrial society. I don't know if any of the main characters from the Halo universe will make any appearances as of now. |
