"Bless spirit ditties of no tone. You and I may forsee. Bless spirit ditties of no tone. Bless spirit ditties of no tone. Deerhoof is this totally off-the-wall band with a Japanese girl singer who pronounces everything with an endearing (or irritating, depending on how you feel about it) accent. The songs are usually either quick, energetic, and crazy, or else they're mellow and quiet. A lot of their quiet songs have a kind of spaced-out quality to them which I find unique, though sometimes its too much for me. But overall, they mix it up a lot, they're weird, interesting, and pretty refreshing to listen to. Occasionally a guy sings; his voice has a faded, muted quality to it that's kind of cool. Why am I writing a mini review here? I don't know. But if you're looking for some new blood in your CD rack, then go ahead and give Deerhoof a try. I would recommend their albums Friend Opportunity and the Runners Four. Favorite songs are probably "+81", "Believe ESP", "Wrong Time Capsule", "Spirit Ditties of No Tone", "Scream Team", "Odyssey", and "You Can See". |
