Mahler's Fifth and Seventh Symphonies were different; Mahler knew the audience didn't understand and wished he conducted the Fifth fifty years later, and the Seventh was not understood by audience or performers...but they were written how Mahler intended to write them...

As an artist or writer, remain true to yourself and your intentions. It's always good advice for life to simply be yourself. Do what makes you happy, and know that the reception of your ideas will be misunderstood by some, but highly approved by others.
