Chizuru spent more than five years with the Shinsengumi before Hijikata acknowledged how he felt about her. Their twelve nights "together" during that time, told from Hijikata's point of view are chronicled in the story Twelfth Night. This is the missing piece, describing their first time together as lovers on the twelfth night, the night before the final battle of the Boshin War.

A chronicle of the nights that Hijikata spends with Chizuru before realizing that he has something very special to live for at the end of the Boshin War and very little time.
