![]() Yo! My name is Dragonblack (It totally is! Really!). If you play games, mainly Age of Chivalry at the moment, I could be the one who just ventilated your skull. I go by Dragonblack, Dragonblackdrake, and variations. Also, Rahimdarigaz. And I know it isn't spelled right, stop telling me! My hobbies include reading, playing video games, SCIENCE!! ,wandering around places and looking at stuff, and taking things seriously. (I think it's because I'm an INTP) If you ever want to have a long and detailed discussion about something completely irrelevant (COULD Goku beat Superman? I have charts!), I'm your man! D&D 4 is actually pretty good. I was worried it would end up being Wow on paper, but it's actually quite different! Try it out, if you can stand the Geeky-ness levels in excess of WoW, but bellow the incredible radiance of Rifts. I've just recently discovered WoD, and I'm impressed. Combat isn't as strategic, but as a story telling medium, the system is fantastic. I like that your character has traits and stats that effect your RPing. Mage characters are especially intriguing, partially due to my innate desire to make things explode by thinking at them, but mainly due to the emphasis on philosophy, and the lateral thinking encouraged by your abilities. Spells or always described in environmental effects, and there are very few hard and fast rules about how you can use them. IT leads to some pretty creative moments, but at the same time forces you to pay attention to staying in character. It's one of the few games I've ever played without immediately Going "Oh, exploit!" In relation to the above chunk: Oh Christ. I met some WoD players from outside my little cabal of gamers. IT turns out one of our players had a girlfriend who's girlfriend was girlfriend to one of their players. (Feel free to break out the pins and string.) Eventual our groups intersected at a fairly disappointing concert. We had the requisite pretentious discussions of philosophy after the show, and arranged a session. This was NOT A GOOD IDEA. I understand now where WoD gets it bad reputation. I have nothing against Nihilism, I've been known to philosophiez in that direction myself, if I run out of coffee and Zee Wulfen, Zey Howel! But at least I understand the basic implications of said philosophy on your life. Nihilisim is the anti-angst, angst and Nihilism are patently incompatable. These morons where rolling in both, AND they were boring Roper's. We actually quit the session early, which was a first for our pack of alpha nerds. Just goes to show, there IS something to stereotypes after all. Irregardless I am happy, for I have discovered a new thing! Left 4 Dead, which is pure very fun. I will reserve judgment till the actual game comes out, but my hopes are high! I wanted a Roc's egg. I wanted a harem loaded with lovely odalisques less than the dust beneath my chariot wheels, the rust that never stained my sword. I wanted raw red gold in nuggets the size of your fist and feed that lousy claim jumper to the huskies! I wanted to get up feeling brisk and go out and break some lances, then pick a likely wench for my droit de seigneur -- I wanted to stand up to the Baron and dare him to touch my wench! I wanted to hear the purple water chuckling against the skin of the Nancy Lee in the cool of the morning watch and not another sound, nor any movement save the slow tilting of the wings of the albatross that had been pacing us the last thousand miles. I wanted the hurtling moons of Barsoom. I wanted Storisende and Poictesme, and Holmes shaking me awake to tell me, "The game's afoot!" I wanted to float down the Mississippi on a raft and elude a mob in company with the Duke of Bilgewater and the Lost Dauphin. I wanted Prester John, and Excalibur held by a moon-white arm out of a silent lake. I wanted to sail with Ulysses and with Tros of Samothrace and eat the lotus in a land that seemed always afternoon. I wanted the feeling of romance and the sense of wonder I had known as a kid. I wanted the world to be what they promised me it was going to be -- instead of the tawdry, lousy, fouled-up mess it is. - Robert A. Heinlein, Glory Road NL Kaos |
