![]() Author has written 3 stories for Fullmetal Alchemist. Yo! So, I guess it should be mentioned that I'm sorta new to the whole fanfic thing. Normally, I write novels . . . . lots and lots and lots of novels. I also indulge in other forms of writing as needed, just so I can get my writing fix. Then recently I came across some fanfic while searching for something else (some obscure reference in some chapter of some manga). Normally, it's not the sort of thing I read - mostly because short stories make me cranky since they never seem quite long enough - but I have to admit, that first fic was really poignant and well-written (a few grammatical errors, I'll admit, but I'm really forgiving of that sort of thing if the story's good; and I'll admit, I totally cried). I was hooked after that. I have now read a couple hundred fanfics in the last couple of months (combination of too much free time and really scary reading skills). I suppose it was inevitable that I'd get bit by this particular bug and want to write one of my own. I'm seriously a writing junkie, so I should have known an idea would eventually spark and it would bother me until I wrote it out of my system. They should really make ointment or a pill for that sort of thing (you know like birth control for an overactive writer's mind, "this medication may be used for the prevention of the proliferation of prose; may cause blurred vision, drowsiness, and mood swings, so use care when operating heavy machinery . . ."). So, here we are. Me with the writing of fanfics *blush* and (hopefully) others with the reading of those fics. What could go wrong? (*ahem* Don't answer that.) I can't promise they'll be good or even all that interesting, but I can promise that I'm frighteningly prolific - and still have way too much damn free time (curse you boredom!!! I blame all of this on you!!). *THE BET: For those who haven't yet heard, a few months ago, some other artist-types and myself endeavored to challenge one another in our various creative fields. The challenge is thus: 1. Create something or take part in something that is outside of your comfort zone. 2. It should also be something that is beyond the level at which you perceive your skill, something you have yet to try because you think you'll fail. 3. The parameters for each individual assignment will be decided by the group and approved by the lone impartial judge. Once decided on, they are non negotiable. 4. The results must be displayed publicly and easily accessible by the general public. There are some other rules involving expenses and progress reports, but those are the main ones that we all have to abide by or we forfeit. I don't know what I was thinking! I must have been insane to accept this challenge. Since I'm a writer, it's a bit harder to publicly display my results, so they decided to make me do fanfiction. I've already got a couple finished stories and one more in the works, so I thought, "Sure. Why not? I can do this!" Eh-eh! Wrong answer! First off, I have to do not one, but THREE stories. Each story is in a fandom I wouldn't normally write in, and the parameters for each story alternately give me headaches and make me cringe. I had originally thought, "Ha, they know nothing of fanfiction! This'll be cake!" I underestimated them. Like, A LOT. They did some research before giving me my parameters, curse it all. I should've known *sigh*. In the end, I wasn't able to complete the stories in time to meet the deadline. However, I worked my butt off on these stories, so I'll still post them when they're done. ~LMA @-;-- |
