Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Storyteller's Message No one knows which invention came first but I believe that there are two that separated mankind from all other creatures on Earth: one is fire and the other is storytelling. Regardless of the geographical location, race or religion, it is conceivable that where ever one could find a campfire, people would gather. Then someone, anyone, would tell a story. Through time, mankind turned the story into an industry and, somehow we started to lose touch with our own imaginations and creativity. We became conditioned to the canned product of a literary society. Praise to those that dared to call themselves’ an author with something new to say; or, better yet, a different way of saying. We are fortunate to live in a time where media has made it possible for imagination to once again flourish. Creativity has a new avenue: the internet. It is a place where anyone can practice the art of storytelling. It does not matter if it is fiction or not. Over time, different versions of a legend are multiplied by the number of people who tell the story; and, within a story there is usually a meaning that can be embraced or denied and a truth that can be dismissed or realized. Sometimes I will sit quietly with my eyes closed and I dream up a new story for my own enjoyment. It usually starts with me asking, “What if…?” Sometimes I experience a story and ask myself, “What could happen next?” I have created and enjoyed dozens of stories that reside only within my mind. Yet, before now, I have never pressed ink to paper. “Dare I call myself an author?” The answer is a resounding “No.” The mechanics of writing a proper paper has always been a challenge and, to be truthful, one that I have avoided as much as possible. Yet, for reasons that I do not fully understand, I now feel compelled to share a story. What label could I possibly wear without contempt or rejection? I am a dreamer and I wish to share a story. |
