![]() Author has written 1 story for Lord of the Rings. Welcome to my corner of the fan girl 'verse. It is shamefully empty (as of August 10th, 2012, 3am). This is because I am shy, terrified of my work being stolen and claimed as belonging to someone else, paranoid about my privacy, and possessed by a severe attention span/ambition drive deficiency. On the other hand, I also long for praise in the form of intense hunger for more of my work, and mini-mochi. (you know: the little, squishy, corn starch-covered bits of steamed rice.. they're frozen yogurt toppings? so addictive). I'll leave out any other personal details (I REALLY like anonymity) and leave up my permanent Author's Notes here: About fan fiction in general: I am of the firm opinion that fan fiction is, more or less, the artistic and intellectual rape of someone's intimate creation. When an artist paints, or an author writes, or a musician plays their own inspired works, they leave a bit of themselves behind for the world to see. Art, in all its forms is a revelation of the soul. As such, having the audacity to muck about in a fictional world, created by someone who did not intend it for that express use, is almost sacrilegious to me... That being said, I'm biting the bullet and indulging myself in this little guilty pleasure anyway. Set in an Alternate Universe: Concerning LotR - I will do my best to maintain actual book canon in my setting and timelines from the creation to the 4th age. Any deviations from Tolkien's originals, intentional or not, may be freely commented upon, but I beg your leave to ignore any suggested changes if they do not mesh with my story. I tend to ignore the main characters as anything other than a pretty backdrop against which to paint my own pictures, specifically because I feel the way I do about fan fiction. I would rather attribute thoughts, feelings and emotions to the people I make up than to push my own ideas onto Tolkien's already awe-inspiring characters. I intend to stir up as little dust as possible while I'm here. In other words, therefore, considering all this: Do not assume that anything ‘is to be expected’ in any of my stories. I refuse to be held back by whatever is currently the most popular characterization of any particular fictional person. This is no holds barred invention, and I refuse to think myself as responsible for your disappointment. There are thousands of stories. While I hope mine please, you may find others if they do not. A Small Explanation behind the Stories: I write as inspiration strikes me. Sometimes when I start a story, I don’t know who exactly the main characters are, if there will be any specific mention of well known characters, or where exactly in any given timeline I am. Sometimes this important information doesn't come to me for several chapters. As such, you may be confused on these points yourself. All I can say is don't knock it till you try it. I’m writing for me, and if you happen to like it, that will be super encouraging. Please review! If you don’t like it, want to hang me, hit me, or verbally abuse me... You can review too, if you can do it politely. Offended and zealous fans of the original material make me laugh, so long as the comments are directed at me. All reviewers keep their hands and views to themselves, please - in other words, no flame wars. In fact, I prefer that you don’t reference other reviews at all. You can state your own opinion without giving in to the need to argue with other people. On the Subject of Reviews: While I appreciate mindless, drooling praise as a sign of my magnificence and superb writing skills, (Can you hear the self-mutilating sarcasm?) and rage-filled ranting on "how inherently wrong I am" makes me giggle, what I really long for is constructive criticism. If you see typos, if your suspension of disbelief is sent a-whirling by bad or out of place characterization compared to the rest of the story, if a sentence is confusing, or if something just flat out ‘feels’ strange and you don’t know why – please, PLEASE write me a review and let me know. Those are the sort of details that I will happily change (if I agree with you) to make a story a better, easier read. A Few Technical Details: There will be no update schedule – Life is too real and too busy to dedicate myself shamelessly to fictional events. If you’re the impatient type, who doesn’t like to be tormented by long waits, come back in a year and check on my progress. You might find something in a finished state! No promises tho'. There will be no average chapter length - I tend to write extensive descriptions, and follow my gut instincts on when each chapter transition should take place. I doubt that any of the actual chapters will be less than three pages in a word processor, but they very well could be a lot longer. (My use of the word "actual" refers to blocks of writing besides forwards, prologues, or epilogues, etc.) There will be extensive formatting – When trying to communicate in worlds where telepathy and multiple languages are present, it becomes somewhat confusing to the reader to ignore the differences between these modes. As a general rule, *telepathic conversation* and private thoughts will be written in italics and clearly punctuated in a way that allows the reader to understand exactly who did the thinking. A bit o' flavor text will be used f'accents unless usin' em causes a word t'loose all semblance of its original meanin' an' appearance. SHOUTING MAY OCCUR, ["untranslated" foreign languages] of which I have no working knowledge will be presented as English for the sake of clarity, and any other relevant inventions will be announced in the chapter heading if necessary. Current News: I hope it's all crystal clear, and that I haven't chased you off already. Having gotten all that off my chest, I would simply like to say this: Welcome to my living room. Pull up a chair, prop your feet up in front of the fire, and enjoy your stay. Hot chocolate? Cookie? I’d be glad to oblige. Anything for a favored guest. |
