Author has written 2 stories for Harry Potter, and Avengers. Hello fanfiction user, I've made this account as I indulge in a lot of fanfictions. In fact I read so much that I think that I have a serious problem, a fanfiction addict, now you've seen everything. In my free time (and procrastination time), I always go onto fanfiction.net, (and Reddit). It's unhealthy, I know. I love the concept of fanfiction because many stories has a very good idea behind it and a lackluster execution. Take Harry Potter for example, the idea of a magical world hidden in the "normal" world that has its fate resting on the shoulders of an abused boy who has one power that the threat does not, is brilliant, if not slightly cliche. However, what J.K Rowling did was make the protagonist be the average millennial, being mediocre in almost every way and relying on everyone else (read: Hermione) to do his job for him, expending minimal effort himself. As a result, my favourite fics consists of a smart and hardworking Harry, distrustful, cynical and paranoid ingrained from his abuse-filled childhood. Whilst there are plenty of these fics around, almost all authors have a habit of making Harry either, massively overpowered without working hard (every millennial's wet dream) or/and giving him a spouse that becomes, according to the author, as strong as him in a smaller timeframe, but being obviously stronger in every way possible and Harry should be grateful to have her in his life. Is it so hard to make Harry work hard for his talents and his potential spouse be better at other things, like art. Doesn't making Harry's spouse be "equal" (read:stronger) than him kind of undermine the prophecy? Apparently I'm the only one who thinks so. This brings me onto pairings: HP/HG: BURN IT WITH FIRE!!! Will not touch any of these as it is almost guaranteed to be a "Oh you're so smart and beautiful Hermione, you go make all the important decisions for me, I mean all the decisions for me and rule my life you smart goddess, I will now kiss your feet." For this pairing to even remotely work would to make Harry the most complacent, uxorious idiot ever (not too different from canon now that I think about it), or to change Hermione to not be a obnoxious, "do what I say" person. Not my cup of tea. SLASH: Also will not touch. At all. I think that it is a little unreasonable to make Harry gay as his main tormentors were two males and I always got the impression that Harry was raped by Vernon. The real reason is that it is a little nauseating for a straight male like me to read, also, the authors pair him with people like Snape and Malfoy, I can't imagine Snape having a sex life at all (just put on this red wig and put in green contacts). Shudder. HP/GW: I used to love this, mainly because it was canon and my younger self found it romantic. Now however, I find it a little forced whenever written and authors always change Ginny too much, she is not a supermodel that is everyone's wet dream, nor "the best chaser in the history of Quidditch". It is unrealistic for Harry to "bring her out of her shell" if he sees her as another fangirl. Also she looks like his mother apparently, that is reason enough to stay far far away from that ship. HP/RANDOM GRIFFINDOR: I don't hate these ships, I have no feeling on them either way. HP/RANDOM HUFFLEPUFF: Same as above. HP/RANDOM RAVENCLAW: Same HP/RANDOM SLYTHERIN: The only random Slytherin girls are Bulstrode and Parkinson... HP/DG: One of my favourite ships. In canon, she is a blank slate for us to shape her, and in fanon, she is "the ice queen". I see her as a fair attractive girl playing ice queen as she is only a teenager. This facade can fool the students but not the staff or (depending on his upbringing) Harry. HP/FD: I also like this one as Fleur is genuinely beautiful in canon with out people exaggerate it like they do with others (I've seen it referred to as the Veela effect, if there are creatures that look perfect aesthetically then Harry's spouse must be even more beautiful right?) and her looks and allure can be her scthick, perhaps being adept with another subject. HP/NT: Tonks is a very underrated character, she is a very competent auror and has metamorphmagis, a very under used skill in canon, she is the perfect spy in that aspect. She is the only potential spouse that can aid a trained Harry in a fight at all. HP/LL: The only reason Luna exists is to show that there are people stranger than Harry is, however, her character is a very interesting one, and can fit well. |
