It turns out Jane might have had a very good reason to be particularly protective of Lisbon during that hotel mission.

Together at last, Jane and Lisbon explore the effects of their past on their new relationship.

"When Patrick Jane thinks back on the evening, he comes to the realisation that that he is probably too old to still be kissing girls goodbye at his trailer door. " Post-Blue Bird,

"I have something for you," he says. She laughs. "Didn't you already get me what I wanted as a kid? Years ago?" "Yes." He returns from the back of the trailer. "This is something else, though." They're both broken, and she can still see the cracks when they're held up to the light, but maybe it's the mixing of pieces and the sharing of scars that will make them whole again. They're not running anymore. He loves her. She loves him. And it might not be perfect, but nothing ever is, and it's a very good place to start. During/post 6.22, "Blue Bird".

"That's what friends do. Friends exchange hugs as a greeting and to say goodbye." Don't expect too much, I just did some sketching. Pure Jisbon!

They'd slipped into old habits almost immediately upon her arrival in Texas, moving seamlessly back into the behavior patterns of partners and best friends. The trouble was, Lisbon had spent a few too many nights alone by her fireplace for this arrangement to be entirely satisfying to her anymore. She wanted more.

Jane hated Texas. Still, it wasn't all bad. At least Lisbon was with him. Of course, they were about to enter a recently evacuated office building to look for a terrorist in the middle of a hurricane, so he supposed things weren't exactly ideal.

"'She had it coming,'" Lisbon quoted to him. "You tell her you're sorry, and then you turn around and tell me 'she had it coming' Was that for my benefit, Jane? Did you think for some reason it would make me feel better to hear you say that? Because let me tell you, it most certainly did not."

Through phone calls with Catherine, Nick and, eventually, his wife, Grissom finds out the details of what happened to Sara in "Forget Me Not". So what happens next? GSR.

A chance encounter and a chat over coffee help Sara begin to see the errors of her ways. Set late season 13. Some spoilers if you still don't know what's been going on. GSR, despite the two characters involved.

"We're working toward it though, right? So I haven't missed anything?" Basically how the second half of Season Four brings Jane and Lisbon closer together.

"I still can't believe you fainted. You fell right into my arms, like a delicate nineteenth century heroine in a romance novel." She glared at him. "Are you ever going to shut up about that?" Missing moment from 5x14, Red in Tooth and Claw

Jane attempts to catch Red John by himself, but things do not go well. Can Lisbon help Jane conquer his demons? And hers? Not for the faint of heart, but eventual Jane/Lisbon if you hang in there. Now complete, and there's still a little surprise twist waiting in the last chapter. The title is stolen from the wonderful Leonard Cohen song.

He really didn't look good. She'd seen him tired before, of course, but even on previous occasions when he'd gone through periods of insomnia, he managed not to let it affect his appearance much beyond appearing attractively rumpled instead of immaculately pressed. But now, he wasn't faring so well. In fact, he looked downright terrible.
