My History with Harry Potter, books and writing

When I was a wee lass I wasn't much of a reader. I wouldn't touch a book without pictures but as I grew older I fell in love with the Goosebumps series by R.L.Stine and from that point my literary journey commenced. Apart from Goosebumps I also enjoyed reading the Shivers series by M.D. Spencer and the Creepers Series by Edgar Hyde. At this period all I read were ghost stories, nothing more. At school they encouraged us to expand our horizons and read other genres but horror remained my fav. Though I did not read a lot I always enjoyed writing and my first ever 'book' was called 'The Magic Teddy Bear' typed on my mother's old typwriter. This story was followed shortly by another called 'The Witches Broomstick' both written when I was 10 years old or younger.

At the age of 11 I wrote my first poem and as the years rolled on I started to write more and more poetry. When I was about 10 or 11 I was given Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone as a gift but I didn't read it. Yeah I know "What an idiot!" but at that time I didn't know who J.K.Rowling was. I thought the author was a man and that Harry Potter was a boy's story written for boys and I had no intention of reading it until that eventual day when I did. It was bedtime and I searched my room for a book to read. None caught my fancy until I saw it. There on my shelf, pulling me towards it was 'Harry Potter' book 1. Having nothing better to read I chose it. From then onwards I was hooked to Harry Potter. I then bought books 2, 3 and 4 (book 5 hadn't yet been released). The first film was about to come out. I was excstatic.

Shortly after the film's release I started reading fanfiction and it wasn't long until I started writing my own. The first being 'It's Just a Little Crush' which is here on this site. From fanfiction I moved on to write short stories and novels of my own and hope to one day get them published.
