The "boy's world" is based on the autobiographical novel by Tobias Wolff. The film tells about the childhood and years of the youth of the main character who grows up in cities such as Salt Lake City, Seattle and Concrete in Washington state. Tobias (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his mother Caroline (Ellen Barkin) travel from place to place, wanting to start a new life.

Because of Tobias, the taste of stability and traditional family life is not known. Then Dwight (Robert DeNiro) appears on the horizon. With her strong character and strict moral principles, she seems to be a perfect candidate for her husband and father. However, when he spends several months in Dwight's house in Concrete, he experiences the "strong character" of his future stepfather on his own skin and he finds out what his steadfast "moral principles" really look like ...

The narrator of the film is Tobias himself, and the story consists of his memories. They are very personal experiences of the main character, they show the whole drama in which he was stuck. On the other hand, one can say that this story has a much broader, universal meaning. Any boy who grew up in America at this time can easily find a part of his own experience in the history of Tobias. Leonardo DiCaprio's ability to create the perfect creation of a mentally and physically abused boy is surprising.

The actor plays extremely suggestively, naturally and emotionally. His creation is undoubtedly one of the best in this film and also one of the best in the actor's career.

technology boss is a boy who tries to break free from the influence of his stepfather in various ways - he rebels against the sick, perverted world in which he was placed. Robert DeNiro once again gives an impressive show of his skills in the role of a strong man who has good intentions, but is harassed by a violent inner nature, as well as by his deeply hidden complexes. Dwight is not bad sensu stricto, but his methods of conduct are reprehensible. When he says he only has the boy's good in mind, we believe him, but we quickly see his inhumane educational methods that are unacceptable. Ellen Barkin, on the other hand, created a pretty successful portrait of a single mother of the 50s. It is certainly quite an unusual role for her, thanks to which she could show her acting skills. Through the character of Dwight, "Boy's world" shows domination as a way to drown out emotional ineptitude and uncertainty. Dwight believes in domination by means of physical and mental strength. He can do everything to show that he has power over everyone. I need this dominance and emphasize it at every step - in relation to my own children, my wife and Tobias. Perhaps he can not react with love and affection, so he resorts to violence.

For this reason, all those close to him suffer - his own children who are completely dominated and their characters in the film are quite colorless. A wife, counting on the feeling, but getting to know the bitter truth already during the wedding night. And, of course, Tobias - the biggest victim, repeatedly humiliated, but nonetheless unbreakable.

In the end, the "Boys' World" fulfills its role.

This shocking film shows how one can overcome the trauma of childhood thanks to his own dreams and initiative, but he does not use cheap, sentimental tricks and does not use trivial phrases. Everyone should watch this film, because its power is unfounded - you can even venture to say that the viewer is experiencing a peculiar catharsis during the screening. I really honestly recommend ...
