I'm working on my first fanfic, Marauder Reminders. It's a Remus/Tonks story.

UPDATE (as of 10/23/06):

I know it's been slow going, folks-- and I appreciate all of you who have emailed or reviewed to encourage me to continue. Since I think you all deserve some explanation for why I haven't updated, here's what happened. After I updated in January, the next chapter was giving me absolute fits. Rewrites, more rewrites, and what the hell, one more rewrite of the rewrites.

And then, in the spring, I was mugged.

Well, not so much "mugged" as I was "assaulted." By nine high school kids who wanted my iPod.

I kind of lost myself for a while there-- it's hard to write falling-in-love Remus when you don't have much faith in humanity any more. I knew that really, the kids had just beaten my body, but I found myself emotionally changed by the situation, which I hated. I didn't want my version of Tonks or Remus to be colored by the experience, because I know I would look back on the story and feel like it was one more thing those kids had managed to steal. I put the notebooks away.

So, I'm back now, because one day Remus poked his head out from behind the curtain on the stage and said, "I'm ready-- are you?"

I hope to update on a more regular basis now.

For those of you who are wondering: I was fortunate enough that the kids were all caught that night. But since they each have a different lawyer, my court date continues to be pushed back, and back, and back. New date: January 9th.

Assumptions for Marauder Reminders:

1. JK Rowling has stated that Sirius was 22 when he was sent to Azkaban. For simplicity's sake, that means I assume that Peter was 22 when he betrayed the Potters who were 22 when they died, as was Remus. Harry, of course, was 1. As OotP takes place when Harry is 15, that makes Remus and Sirius 36.

2. Tonks is 22. According to HP Lexicon, which starts back-dating from her comment to Harry that she only qualified as an auror "a year ago". Since OotP takes place in 1995, that means she qualified in 1994. We know it's three years of training, which means she entered training in 1991. Assuming she went straight out of Hogwarts, she graduated in June 1991. And that means she started in September 1984, when she was 11, meaning she was born sometime in 1973. Whew.

3. I also assume that Tonks and Remus have not met. While I've read some cute stories that include Remus remembering her from when she was little, I find it unlikely for the following reasons: A.) Tonks mother was disowned for marrying a muggle, and since Tonks is 7 years older than Harry, I think it's safe to say that Andromeda is older than Sirius, which means he was still living at home when she got married and thus, disowned. It's not likely that they stayed in contact. B.) Sirius was thrown in prison when he was 22, and that makes Tonk 6. With the war raging, and your best friend's life clearly in danger (the Potters were already in hiding for a while) how concerned are you going to be with your disowned cousin's daughter? C.)What is the likelyhood that HE stayed in contact with his betraying friend's disowned cousin and her six year old daughter? In his grief at losing one friend because the other killed him directly and also betrayed the others- I doubt Remus talked to anyone for a good long while.

And for those of you who wonder about the age difference between these two, I'll just say this: I, myself, have dated someone with a 14 year age difference. It happens. And if Remus Lupin walked in my door, I'd probably date him now too, even with the 11 year difference.

So, those are my assumptions. I hope you like the story.
