Mac and the team are sent on a mission with Oversight to reclaim a very important source of information. An unexpected illness will put one of their lives in grave danger and the others at odds with one another. Choices will be made that will test the limits of friendship and push the boundaries of what it truly means to be family.

Set in S2. Jack Dalton defines himself by how well he does one job: protecting MacGyver. But when he wakes up wounded to find Mac missing and no memory of where is partner might be, Jack is lost. And his only way back is to find Mac—alive.

This is the first time one of Mac's plans has gone horrifically pear-shaped in front of Riley and Bozer. This is most assuredly not the first time it has happened in front of Jack. (And it never gets any easier.) Or: the one where Mac falls, Bozer and Riley watch him come close to death for the first time, and Jack holds everyone (for the most part) together (for as long as he can)

Set mid-S2. Not all missions are a success, no matter how good Mac is at improvising. One failure hits Mac particularly hard and before he's able to re-balance, the team is in the middle of another crisis—this time Mac's ready to die before he fails to protect another innocent. Unless Jack has something to say about it.

When Mac is shot by an unknown assailant Jack must revisit a painful reminder from his past. Digging into the truth of what happened will bring him and the team face to face with both old friends and forgotten foes.
