Gray had told Natsu to go, but he would have also expected the dragon slayer to come back. Natsu does come back eventually, after his one-year training trip, but by then it's far too late.

Side stories to "The Third Time". Because although Gray was still a little broken at the edges and there would always be more times for grieving, Natsu had promised that he would always be there so that they could figure things out together.

Gray hasn't been sleeping well after the Galuna Island debacle, and when he has another nightmare while on a job, Natsu wants to know what's wrong. It turns out that Gray is upset over more than just the memory of his dead family and old master.

On his way back from a job, Gray is attacked by a dark guild from his past. Natsu was too late to save him travels all the way to the Northern Continent in order to rescue Fairy Tail's lost ice wizard. However, much darker forces are behind the attack and the fate of the raven-haired teen is left in one Devil Slayers hands.

Gray doesn't yet know if he's going to have to resort to using iced shell on the demon terrorizing the countryside, but he figures that it's better to be safe than sorry.
