Author has written 6 stories for Harry Potter. To new and existing readers: ABOUT ME: I live in Ontario, Canada, and have been writing for approximately 25 years. Well, lately I haven't had much time to write, and spent what little free time I had reading HP fanfiction. To be completely honest, I don't like the Harry Potter series after book three. December 31, 2016 update: I've been deliberating on editing my profile for some time, to put a few of my personal thoughts in here, so, here goes: As children's books go, the Harry Potter series is one of many contradictions. From the conclusion of the first book I determined several things: 1) Albus Dumbledore is above the law. He conspires to kidnap and then participates in the kidnapping of a minor, and then extorts an estranged family member to raise him, unwillingly. He then fails to ensure the childs safety and well being. 2) The "wonderful magical society" encourages bullying, bigotry, and it begins in their school system and carries on into their very government. This is a theme that carries on throughout the series. 3) There are some disturbing sexual perversions that are mentioned, but no one seemed to notice! These would be the half-giant Hagrid and the half-goblin Filius Flitwick. I could go on and on, picking each little bit out of each book, but for me the disturbing thing is parents allowed children to read these books, and they are still sold in the children's section of the bookstores. Think on it, if you will. Kidnapping, extortion, systematic child abuse, bullying, racial bigotry, multiple murder attempts on various people, torture, malicious attacks on a minor by a government. There is also the inaction of the staff of a school, allowing the various abuses to keep occurring. Perfect role models, hmm? Sounds like a wonderful children's story! Here, I will also point out that the prophecy, upon which the series is based on, indicated only Harry Potter, not Neville. "...born as the seventh month dies". It says dies, not dying. The last I checked there are 31 days in July, not 30. Neville, being born on the 30th, would be automatically disqualified. The 'power he knows not' is also never revealed. Riddle knew about the Elder wand, so thats out, and the 'mastery' of the wand was always a contentious point because it's first 'owner' was not defeated in a duel. He was murdered. AUTHORS NOTE: I have been somewhat dishonest with my readers, as the style which I have been writing in is not the normal way I write. I'm much more blunt, and have a tendency to wriite as people speak. For example, I swear a lot, and if I believe a character is a 'rough and tumble' sort, I'd normally include that in their vocabulary. I'm planning on including a couple of new stories, and will write as I see fit. If the administrators see fit to delete my work, I will be seeking to post my stories elsewhere. Some of my favorite writers have done so, and after reading their works, I'm unsure why they were censored. So, fair warning if my stories disappear. Check out Jeconais (he's not on this site), and read Blue Steel, and Perfect Slytherins. I highly recommend both. On his site you will find several other stories/writers that were removed from here. FAVOURITE PAIRINGS: HP/DG - story: A Different Sort of Bond HP/PP - story: White Knight Grey Queen HP/RV - story: Blue Steel (there are no pairings in the story, but I really enjoyed the way the author developed her character, and her interactions with Harry) HP/LL - no favourite story, but I love the possibilities with her character, if properly developed Despite my writings, I am not now, nor will I ever be a HP/HG shipper, nor a HP/GW. I especially dislike any HG/RW stories. The character of Ron is a total berk. I had a friend like him once, and after he physically attacked me when my back was turned, our friendship ended. I've never spoken to or interacted with him since, and that was over 30 years ago. There are some things that are not excusable, no matter your age. FAVOURITE CROSSOVER PAIRINGS: Harry Potter/Wednesday Addams - Perfect Slytherins Harry Potter/River - Browncoat Green Eyes I delved into crossover fanfiction because I was beginning to find that there was too much repetition of themes and pairings. Rowling's character development was relatively flat, and left adult readers wanting. RANDOM FACTOIDS: For everyone's reading pleasure, I will advise everyone that Rowling is not quite the persona that has been advertised. She is the most successful children's author, but the bulk of her wealth is not from her book sales. She, somehow, finangled a higher percentage of royalties for the movie rights, and combined with various advertising deals, is the true genius behind her financial status. She almost lost it too, because she refused to allow Steven Spielberg to cast who he wanted in the lead role. Spielberg walked away from the project. Pretty sure she didn't make any friends there. On a purely informative note, the worlds most successful author (living) is...Danielle Steel, with over 800 million books sold worldwide. The reason J.R.R. Tolkien (his estate) is not so wildly financially successful is because the old man was not a businessman. He sold the movie rights to the LoTR saga, including the Hobbit, for the sum of £10,000 in 1968. Christopher Tolkien also refused to be a consultant for the movies, citing he wanted 'complete creative control'. Ummmm, you have no directing or producing experience, so that's a big NO! The Hardy Boys series, first published in 1929, still sells over a million books yearly. Pretty good, considering 'Franklin W. Dixon', the purported author, is an alias for a multitude of writers who were paid lump sums to create each book. |
