![]() Author has written 12 stories for Shadowrun, Star Wars, Silent Hill, Mechwarrior/Battletech, Forgotten Realms, and Dungeons and Dragons. I'm a husband, father, and corporate wage slave with dreams of some day writing something publishable. In the past, most of my creative inclinations have been spurred by role playing games (the pen and paper kind), and thus most of the fandoms I've written in intersect with role playing in some form or another. For the last few years I've been concentrating on an original fiction novel, but recently my interest in fanfiction has been rekindled, and so here I am. In the works now is a sequel to the Shadowrun novel Paid in Blood entitled Deus Ex Machina which focuses on the dystopian techno-horror that is the Renraku Arcology. It's been forever since the work first began, but I recently posted chapter 2 (hooray, 2 chapters in 6 years!). More should be coming soon, I just can't guarantee when. Posting will be somewhat erratic due to multiple projects, work, and family life, but rest assured it's being worked on. My earlier fanfiction offerings are provided below--for completeness sake if nothing else. A lot of them are pure drivel, but some might be pretty OK. Below I have a synopsis of each. The Good Shadowrun: Paid in Blood - A tale of betrayal and revenge set in the Seattle metroplex of 2060. It's told in the first person by Peaches, a retired shadowrunner who is unexpectedly dragged back into the shadows once again. It's set in the world of Shadowrun, a relatively obscure fandom around here, but suffice to say that it's a mishmash of cyberpunk and D&D--which is like awesomeness squared. This is my longest work and probably my most successful fanfiction to date--which probably isn't saying much, but you get the idea. When It Rains - Another Shadowrun short story involving Peaches and the rest of the "fruits." This one is told from the perspective of a corporate executive who has a non-too-pleasant run-in with Peaches and crew. Sins of the Father, The Terror of Muffin's Honor, and The Order of the Ebon Hand - These are all backgrounds created for D&D characters. They're presented here only because I'm embarrassingly pleased with them. There's very little story to them, but since they're technically fanfiction, I thought I'd post them here. They're in various D&D settings (Pathfinder, homebrew, and Forgotten Realms, respectively). The Bad The Indomitable - This story details the last moments of the Magistracy of Canopus as Ian Cameron's vaunted Star League Defense Force tightens its stranglehold on the galaxy. Magistrix Centrella must... You know what? Forget it. It's Battletech. If you don't know the fandom, then any synopsis I give you is going to confuse you even more. Suffice to say that Inner Sphere politics abound. Read at your own risk. Star Wars: Shades of Gray - This was my first real fanfiction novel (or novella, to be precise). It's set at the beginning of The Empire Strikes Back and involves an Imperial TIE fighter pilot who has an awakening to the nature of his beloved empire. It's not your typical fanfiction, what with the original characters and tangental plot and the attempts at symbolism and actual themes. Of course, that isn't to say any of that was actually successful. It's also sub-par writing (IMHO), but enough people seemed to have liked it. The Ugly This covers pretty much everything else. It's mostly vignettes and character studies that were written based on various gaming sessions. There's also an aborted Silent Hill fic which I might try to turn into an original fiction novel some time, but for now it's pretty much deceased. The only reason they're there is to beef up my paltry story count. If you're inclined to read them, do so at your own risk. I love reviews, so if you have time, please drop me a line and tell me what you thought of whichever story you happened to read. I do ask that, if you see anything that could be improved, please let me know about it. Warm fuzzies are great, but what I really want is to improve, and I can't do that without honest feedback. We all lead busy lives, though, so if you don't have time or just plain don't want to, don't feel obligated to leave a review. The fact that these stories are read at all is flattering enough by itself. Also, I'm not signed up as a beta reader or anything, but if you would like me to read any of your own work, please let me know and I'll try to give it a look. Thanks for stopping by, and good luck to your own writing! |
