Author has written 2 stories for Lord of the Rings. Greetings internet traveller to..er..my fanfiction.net profile! I am, A cappella (sometimes known as Amber), your host for this evening. Please let me know if there's anything I can get you. Anyway, I'm 24, from the US, but I live in England. My hubby is British..so that's why I'm here.I do like to write. Seriously, I do. What my main problem is that I have the attention span of a gnat. My favorite Fandoms seem to change on a daily basis. Right now, Phantom of the Opera, tomorrow might be back to Anime such as Gravitation, Cowboy Bebop, or Trigun. Then the next day it may be Lord of the Rings and then possibly Harry Potter...thrown in for good measure. While this does give me a broad scope of things to read and enjoy, it also means that I tend to start writing something and then give up on it as my fancy shifts to another genre or fandom. Of course there are certain things that have not changed. For instance, the Phantom of the Opera has been a driving force for many inspirations since I was about 10 and I have always been disappointed that Christine didn't stay with Erik. For me there'd have been no question. Any man who could seduce me with song ( Or a computer...love you Chris ^_^) gets major brownie points. Lord of the Rings has been ever-present it seems. While I respect you purists and strict cannon-ers out there, I have always been of the opinion that why bother writing fanfiction if you can't change things and alter bits to the way you think they should have been. Dr. Who, though it seems to be lacking in the fan fiction department has been a steady companion since I was 6. And yes, I always fancied Adric. I'm such a loser. Then there are the newer more recent inspirations. Harry Potter. British lads in school uniforms never ceases to intrigue me. Though I do admit, when reading these fanfictions I tend to feel slightly older than usaual. Has it really been 10 years since I was Harry's age? Good lord. Anime. All the coolest things have always come out of Japan anyway right? I suppose those are my favorite fandoms. As for other favorite things such as..ooh, books: (I just like making lists I think) Phantom by Susan Kay: I first read this book when I was 12, a few years after the first time I heard Michael Crawford sing Music of the Night and decided it was one of the most beautiful songs ever. After hearing him sing I became slightly obsessed with the musical and decided to delve in deeper to this character of the Phantom of the Opera. Needless to say I came across two books. Gaston Leroux's Phantom of the Opera (you know the original story) and Susan Kay's Phantom. Now I know this is wrong to say (or at least so I'm told) but I have ALWAYS preferred Susan Kay's telling of story. After all Erik, in my opinion has always had a sort of sinister sexiness...and Susan Kay's retelling basically supports and enhances that quality. Stand Before Your God by Paul Watkins: What an amazing book. Memoirs no less. This man actually lived through the story in this book. Beautifully told story about a young American boy sent to British boarding schools. I guess in a way, I'm drawn to this book because, like Mr. Watkins, I'm now an American, living in Britain. And while I don't come across the sorts of people he did in his experiences in posh boarding schools, I do sort of feel an affinitiy to some of the issues he deals with in being a foreigner in a country such as England Abarat by Clive Barker (both the first and second books): When I was 11 and my sister was 5, my parents took us to a movie called Lord of Illusion. Those who have seen the movie, I'm sure are already cringing and wondering why my parents took such young children to such a film. Those who've not seen it. blood, gore, gougings..all the normal things associated with horror author Clive Barker. Abarat on the other hand is truely a fantastical voyage. His own paintings are in the book adding a visual aspect to the already abundantly colorful descriptions of this world Abarat. And even greater, the books' antagonist is another one of those characters I love. You know the type. Tortured, depressed, possibly deranged men who do dark unthinkable things though underneath the exterior you get a distinct impression that there is a beautiful soul. That is Christopher Carrion. His preoccupation with our protagonist, Candy Quackenbush is very...well Erik-like. (Erik being the Phantom of the Opera's given name). And we all already know about my Erik adoration. Speaking of which, "Tortured, depressed, possibly deranged men who do dark unthinkable things though underneath the exterior you get a distinct impression that there is a beautiful soul" whom I love: Erik from the Phantom of the Opera Though preferably from Susan Kay's Phantom. Erik is epitome of the "Tortured, depressed...etc." type of man I love. Probably the first one I loved as well. Damn Michael Crawford and his "You alone can make my song take flight. Help me make the Music of the Night." He has a lot to answer for. this list for one. The first time I saw the musical (New York City in 1993) I about peed myself . Wasn't Michael Crawford but hey...it was the Phantom! And anyway, me being musical (band geek, orchestra nerd, and chorus prat) Erik's unearthly musical talent is naturally irresistable to me. And the hands...gotta love the hands. Not sure why, buy you gotta. Christopher Carrion from Abarat Anyone who gets pleasure from nightmare flowing around and touching his face almost automatically gets on my list. The Master from Dr. Who I fancied Adric, but the Master was always my favorite villain. You almost want him to sometimes get the Doctor with all his self-righteous good-doing that he does. Jareth from Labirynth David Bowie...enough said. Shinzon from Star Trek: Nemesis I love evilly confident men in plastic-y costumes. Lestat from Interview with a Vampire Preferably when he's being evil to Louis but not bad when he's trapsing around in patent leather pants a la Queen of the Damned. Dracula from Bram Stoker's Dracula Not the old man but the hot guy with the Absinthe and the gloves and the blue glasses and the pretty white puppy that visits him in theaters. Knives from Trigun He had me when he was sitting in that chair cutting his hair to be like Vash. You knew he was insane then. You just knew it. Legato from Trigun He makes one of those self-righteous good-doers do something that will inevitably destroy their...good-doing self-righteousness. So naturally, I want him. Vicious from Cowboy Bebop Anyone who's name is Vicious must be cool. Anyone who carries a katana must be cool. Anyone with long white hair must be cool. Anyone with a crow sitting on his shoulder...well is probably a bit messed up. But that's why he's cool! Anyway, since I know you're all fed up with my endless chatter of nonesense, I bid you all a fond farewell. I hope you have enjoyed your stay at A cappella's fanfiction.net profile. |
